The Day Is Not Totally Lost: We Beat Prop 60!

A silver lining for us all 

When I woke up this morning, I had one glimmer of hope for our country: Prop 60 was struck down in California! (And, you know, weed was legalized.) Hell yes! This is an amazing feat, even for such a liberal state as Cali. The industry-run effort made a powerful impact in mainstream media, and finally, it seems, citizens are treating performers' opinions about their own bodies as credible.

But why listen to me ramble on about how awesome the downfall of Prop 60 is when you can hear it straight from the performers whose financial and physical safety is now protected?! I reached out to the one and only Missy Martinez to get her take on the ruling: 

"In my so far 8 years in this industry, I've NEVER witnessed such camaraderie as the kind fighting Proposition 60 has fostered. Porn has and always will be a 'villain,' a 'scapegoat,' and an 'easy target' for political agendas," she said. "With this victory under the industry's belt, I only hope and pray that this momentum keeps building and knocking all obstacles/opposition down as they most definitely will continue to be thrown at our business." 

Amen. The collective hope is that we're entering a chapter in society where porn is seen as the legitimate media it is, not a social perversion. 

"Sex is BEAUTIFUL, NATURAL, and HEALTHY and us performers should NEVER be made to be felt 'dirty,' 'bad,' or 'immoral' just because others have hang-ups," continued Missy. "I love this industry and am thankful for EVERY SINGLE person in it that has fought tooth and nail to preserve it. A special thank you to voters (both XXX fans and not) for being objective and realizing how poorly formed and biased this 'safety law' was written and proposed. Together, we are strong!"
