Checking in with Bree Mills, Creator of New Site/Studio Pure Taboo

Bree Mills is the mind and a big creative force behind some of the sites you love- Girlsway, MommysGirl, Webyoung and PrettyDirty. Her latest creation is Pure Taboo- a site dedicated to pushing the taboo relations genre further than it has ever gone. If you love a plot with your porn, I can't recommend checking out Pure Taboo enough. It has adult material with storylines that match the intensity of the sex well. 

Congrats on the new studio/site! How did the creation of it come about?

"Thank you! Pure Taboo has been a real labor of love for Gamma Films and I am truly proud of what we have created. There’s nothing like it in the industry right now and honestly, that was my goal. I wanted to challenge all the conventions about what porn should and shouldn’t be, from the subjects to the performances to the camerawork. I’ve produced hundreds of taboo scenes in my career and we’ve certainly found success with them but, I’ve always wanted to tackle taboo differently … to strip away the camp and comedy and treat these stories seriously. This became the core vision of Pure Taboo and, under this direction, we’ve built a brand that hopes to defy all the conventions. We shoot serious taboo stories with a focus on hyper-realist cinematography and powerful acting performances. The results are episodes that are dark, often disturbing, and hauntingly beautiful. I’m incredibly proud of our cast so far … which has emerged as the real guiding light of this brand. Pure Taboo is the studio where you will find some of the most daring and inspired acting ever in this business. We aim to leave equally shocked and aroused."

You write all of this site's scripts and storylines. Where do you find your inspiration for these scenes comes from?

"I draw a lot of inspiration from true crime dramas, real life cases, and everything I can get my hands on in terms of sexuality and paraphilia research. Since most of our episodes feature a “teen” character, I also try to draw heavily on all the classic porn tropes about teen content and see how I can give them a Pure Taboo twist. Babysitters, prom queens, cheerleaders … they all get fucked up in my universe to challenge the status quo about that genre. Most importantly, I speak regularly with taboo fans themselves to try and understand what nuances drive their fantasies and see how I can creatively cater to them within my means."

What do you enjoy most about co-directing with Craven Moorehead?

"Craven is a veteran in this business, with 20 years of experience being a performer, director, and producer. He is the perfect counterpart to my rogue, theatrical style so we make a great team. While I’m focusing on the acting and choreography of each sequence, he manages the crew and technical execution. But, really, we’re just the leaders of a great, creative group of players who all contribute to the final product. As we say, teamwork makes the dream work."

There is such a darker tone and more brooding nature to the Pure Taboo scenes. How do you feel that people will respond to this material?

"It’s different than what most people are used to, so I anticipate a lot of curiosity at the very least. We’re not going to be for everyone, but I feel that many fans of mainstream crime dramas and edgier content will find a brand like us refreshing. After all, these mediums have gone hand in hand forever so … it was only a matter of time before someone dared to mix them up in adult."

Why do you think that there is such a demand for the taboo relations genre right now?

"At its very definition, taboo is all about that which should be forbidden. We're all taught which lines not to cross, which paths to avoid, and which thoughts we should keep to ourselves. But, within us all, exists that curiosity to explore the darker side of sex and desire. These are the fantasies we all have but rarely see brought to life. And this is what makes the taboo genre so popular."

What Pure Taboo scene is your favorite one so far? What performances in it surprised/inspired you?

"My favorite standalone episode so far would probably be 'A Charitable Man' starring Aubrey Sinclair and Danny Mountain. From an execution standpoint, I felt we achieved everything our brand sets out to in terms of story, tone, acting, and sex. I’m also very pleased with our first feature ‘Half His Age: A Teenage Tragedy’ which has been released alongside the website launch. It has incredible performances by Jill Kassidy, Charles Dera, Kristen Scott, Small Hands, Cherie DeVille and Xander Corvus."

You seem to really love giving performers opportunities to act. Why do you think that people so often underestimate the abilities of people who work in porn?

"That is my mantra, what drives me as a director. I hate the term “mattress actress” or the idea that, because it’s adult, we shouldn’t focus on the acting. The reality is that most performers enter the industry with some interest and background in the arts, from dance to modeling to school plays. The interest in honing their acting skills is there … the opportunity to do so just often isn’t. So, I treat every one of my productions as if they were an acting workshop. I don’t write full scripts. I write detailed scenarios that I bring to life with the actors. We develop their characters and work sequence by sequence as if we were rehearsing a play. The result is a very theatrical approach to the dialogue that can choreographed and captured with minimal takes to create this very immersive experience. And I haven’t worked with a performer yet who didn’t leave feeling tremendously proud of what they did. I hope that Pure Taboo sets a standard for how we place value on the acting side of these performers."

What is it about darkness that can nurture erotica so well?

"Sex drives us … all the best and worst decisions we can make as a human race. So, it just fits naturally."

What do you have coming up on all of the sites you write/produce/co-direct for?

"Apart from the launch and production of our standard Pure Taboo episodes, I will also be bringing in a few high-profile producers in the next year to guest direct episodes with our crew. This is part of my vision to ultimately create a space for creative spins on the porn drama / serious taboo themes I’m pushing. Girlsway, our lesbian brand, just released its big feature of the year, "Vampires", which was written and directed by Stills by Alan , my creative partner in that brand."
