Checking in with Porn Star/Author Logan Pierce

PORNSTARS

Logan's Telling His Story!

Porn star Logan Pierce has released the first volume in his three part memoir and it is titled "Between The Sheets: Rise Of A Working Stiff". Released by Pierce under the name "J.R. Verlin", it details the life and doings of AVN's 2013 Best Male Newcomer. Check it out!

What inspired you to start this three-part memoir?

"I have been an avid reader and a major fan of movies and the process of filmmaking for practically my entire life. I started writing short stories and screenplays when I was a teenager, and then when I went to film school the habit continued to grow. Cut to: 2013. I was now a full-time male performer in the industry (the details of how, you’ll just have to read to find out). My writing hadn’t stopped, but it took a backseat while I focused on work. That’s when tragedy struck. A moratorium was called because a veteran performer had tested positive for HIV. I remember being flooded with second thoughts and fear, and desperate for an outlet, I purged onto the page. I had a sudden realization that our time as performers in this industry is limited, and while HIV cases are incredibly rare (almost non-existent) the fact is, it has happened and it can happen to any one of us. I made a promise to myself right then and there to document my days, to share my story, and to immortalize my experience in porn. This led to daily journaling, which was then digitally transcribed and then molded and crafted over time to finally become book one, entitled, “Between the Sheets: Rise of a Working Stiff”."

What authors inspire you as a writer? Are there any other porn star memoirs that you have found to be influential or just great reads?

"Even though they’re relative degenerates, Henry Miller and Charles Bukowski are definitely literary inspirations for me because of their similar subject matter and their unabashed self-deprecation. Asa Akira’s first memoir was profoundly motivating when I first conceived the idea to write a book. Also, Danny Wylde’s first two novels were a sick pleasure to read."

What have you found that non-industry people most misunderstand about the lives of porn stars?

"The normality of our lives. Even though the content of our day jobs is wildly unorthodox by society’s standards, we are still very much average people with schedules, routines, hobbies, passions, aspirations, healthy relationships with our parents, etc. Speaking personally, most people I meet would never have a clue I’m actually a porn star; it makes me feel a little like a secret agent in a way."

Why do you have it split into three parts? What about your story has made you decide to tell it that way?

"I felt the need to split everything into separate parts due to excess of material. I believe I have found the perfect length to keep readers invested and then leave them hungry for more by the end. Also, I chose a length that I hope would entice those who normally wouldn’t be so quick to start a book due to an intimidating size. So long as I’m in porn, my story will never be officially finished. I didn’t intend to write one giant book as an end-all-be-all, I just wanted to compile moments and experiences. With book one, I have set the stage, created the world, and introduced all of the major players. This is a definitive origin story."

The subject of drug use comes up in your book. Do you think that porn was responsible for your habits or was it something that you think would have crossed your path regardless?

"I have always been a very curious person; experimentation with drugs would’ve happened regardless of whether or not I was in the industry. Porn was in no way responsible for the drug use discussed in the book, however it certainly facilitated it."

A lot of men covet what male porn stars get to do for a living. Should they, in your view?

"I can’t deny the fact that when the days are good, they are exceptional, a rush unlike anything else. When I’m firing on all cylinders, I truly love my job, but that isn’t to say it is completely without baggage. There is a flipside to 'living the dream'; sacrifices are made and harsh realities must be faced. Sometimes it’s hard to gauge whether the moments of bliss outweigh the lifetime of stigmatization, but I know for me it’s worth it for the story."

What about your fame as an adult performer has surprised you the most?

"I can’t really answer this because I don’t consider myself even remotely famous."

What did you enjoy most about the process of writing your book?

"What I enjoy the most about the writing process is the moment during long sessions when I stop thinking about what to write next and just let my body be the vessel for the genius inside of me. That’s when I know I’ve finally cracked the code; the scene is so perfectly clear in my mind, I just have to hope that my hands can keep up."

What else is coming up for you?

"Besides A LOT of stimulating porn, I have an adventure-horror film that I co-starred in slated for release in early 2018, as well as a supplemental book of poetry that should also be making the rounds in early 2018."

Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans here at Fleshbot?
