There are only so many glass ceilings one person can shatter on their own. Take Jessica Henwick for example. She's the first Asian actress to appear on the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, meaning it would be obviously be too much to expect that she's be the first naked Asian actress on the show. It's a shame, but she's already taken one for the team. Go easy on her.
In an interview with the South China Morning Post (link below), the publication most frequently cited as the one you never knew existed, Henwick revealed that it's "overwhelming and scary" to be the first Asian on Game of Thrones. So scary, in fact, that she's leaving her clothes on.
Game of Thrones has a lot of sex and nudity in it. Was that a concern when you auditioned?
"When I got the role, it was very clear that there was no nudity in my contract. It's one thing to see it on screen and another to be doing it."
Right about now you're thinking to yourself, "Tucker, if she's not going to be nude, why tell us about this at all?" First of all, this is history, so you know, respect it. Second of all, she drops some tidbits about her character, one of the three daughters of the slain Oberyn Martell.
Can you give us some insight into season five? "
HBO would murder me if I gave away any secrets. In this season, the three sisters come in with a plot to kill the Lannisters. Obara wants to charge in there and Tyene is not thinking at all. She just wants to prove herself worthy. Nymeria [Henwick's character] keeps thinking how she can hurt them the way they hurt her."
