Kansas To Combat Budget Crisis By Selling Seized Sex Toys

With election time looming, incumbents across this great land of ours are rolling up their sleeves and getting down to the dirty work of making it look like they actually do something. Kansas Governor Sam Brownback is facing the toughest re-election campaign of his career, so he's doing what any man staring down the barrel of a gun would do; Selling sex toys to raise money for the State.

According to Salon (link below), Brownback is attempting make up for creating a $300 million budget shortfall, thanks to his shortsighted tax and spending cuts, by auctioning off a cache of seized sex toys. 

The auction is intended to recoup unpaid tax revenue from adult entertainment purveyor Larry Minkoff, who allegedly resisted requests from the Kansas Department of Revenue for $163,986, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal. Minkoff’s assets were seized by state officials in a five-business raid in July, and he eventually agreed to sell the holdings at public auction and apply the profits to his tax debt.

Okay, so $163,986 out of $300,000,000. To put that in more understandable terms, it's like putting down 16 cents on a $300 television. In other words, outrageously stupid. 

“Brownback is so desperate to fill the massive hole in the state budget caused by his reckless income tax cuts that the state of Kansas is now in the porn business,” Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley said. “This is the same governor whose supporters spent this past week attacking his opponent for a strip club incident.”

Hypocrisy in politics is nothing new, it's just perhaps never been so brazenly illustrated before. Thanks for that Sam Brownback.
