Bare Breasts Appear On Billboards In Britain

The Brits have a much more lax attitude toward sex than us Americans. After all, we're the ones who left because things were too freewheeling back in the 18th century. Nevertheless, it's still surprising to see a pair of bare breasts on a billboard, which is exactly what one company's doing to raise awareness about breast cancer.

According to the Telegraph (link below), the charity organization known as CoppaFeel! is purchasing advertising space in heavily populated areas, and putting up a variety of pictures of breasts in every shape, size, color, and texture you can imagine.

...the main aim of the campaign is to normalise breasts - often sexualised in the media and pornography - by helping women to reclaim the vocabulary surrounding their bodies.

It will use the social media hashtag #whatnormalfeelslike to help young women talk about their breasts and create a supportive, online discussion.

Apparently months of research went into this campaign, which aimed to help women use terms other than big and small to describe their breasts.

Kris Hallenga, who founded CoppaFeel! when she was diagnosed with breast cancer aged 23, said: “We want to make it normal for girls to talk about their boobs. Society and the media think of breasts in a sexual way, but by creating this campaign we want to give boobs back to women and encourage them to think, and talk about them, in terms beyond size. The more normal it is to talk about boobs, the more likely women are to check themselves regularly and spot any changes early.”

Hey, I'm all for this campaign, particularly if it makes me appear more socially conscious to all the ladies.
