Netflix Picks: Sex You Up Some Social Consciousness

Sex can teach you a lot of things about the world. For one, you learn about the amazing variety of human genitalia out there! Second, you learn what it means to be a lover. Third, and most importantly, you learn about yourself, your needs and wants, and their far-reaching consequences. In today's double feature, we'll be exploring sex as a medium for enlightenment.

1. Twelve Thirty: A twenty-two year-old hottie named Jeff starts off by hooking up with a woman he works with, then her sister, and then their mother. If this were a porn film--and at one point, one character holds her ass in the air and asks Jeff, "Isn't this the way it looks in porn?"--there would be no problems save for a bit of playful jealousy and gossip, but "Twelve Thirty" doesn't let Jeff off so easily. We've all met the Jeff type before: someone with beauty that opens doors and youth that urges them through every open passage, regardless of the consequences. So how exactly does Jeff upset the family dynamics? We don't want to spoil it for you, so we'll just say that multiple isolated units can appear to be a group, and the naked parts are at 19:30, 23:00, 49:00, 50:00, and 1:28:30. Oh, and the mom is played by Karen Young, who is damn fine.

2. Now & Later: Bill (James Wortham) was the golden boy of the banking industry, and he had everything a powerful man could possibly want: wealth, family, and status. Then his greed caught up with him, he got sentenced to eight years of jail, and when the chance came, he jumped his bail and started hiding out in a strange part of Los Angeles. That's where he meets Angela (Shari Solanis), a free-spirited babe who teaches him the importance of living in the present--with sex as the major learning tool--and helps him gain awareness of how his fast-paced and money-hungry lifestyle harms the world around him. We don't know how she does it, but Shari Solanis's vagina blasts the imperialist bastard out of his heart; you can observe this in action at 27:20, 50:30, 1:05:00, 1:19:00, 1:28:30, and 1:32:45.
