By our count, this is Tristan Taormino's fifth educational movie about anal sex (its predecessors: "Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women" 1 & 2, "Expert Guide to Anal Sex," and "Expert Guide to Anal Pleasure for Men"), which may lead some to assume she's run out of ideas. Au contraire, mon frere: Tristan may spend a lot of time making movies about butt sex, but every time she returns to the topic, it's because she's figured out a way to improve on her last film. And true to form, the "Expert Guide to Advanced Anal Sex" is Tristan's best film on the subject. And despite the title, it's not just for advanced players, either. Everyone with a butt, or interest in penetrating one, is welcome along on this ride (and we do mean everyone).

Over the years, the format of Tristan's "Expert Guide" series has evolved quite a bit as she's figured out how to balance the proper amounts of information and stimulation in her films; we're pleased to note that the "Advanced Anal Sex" guide follows the same format used in the delightful "Expert Guide to Female Orgasms." The release kicks off with a lecture from Tristan (discussing everything from basic anatomy and lube use to a cornucopia of anal sex positions, advice on double penetration, and basic info about strap-ons), throughout the lecture, some of Tristan's finer points are illustrated with clips from the release's many scenes (as well as shots of Tyler Knight and Sinnamon Love—who aren't otherwise in the feature—getting it on). Worried that twenty minutes isn't enough time to answer all your pressing anal questions? Worry not: extra featurettes on safer sex/choking safety, solo prostate stimulation, strap-on tips, and anal hygiene come packaged as DVD bonuses.

Post lecture, it's time for the sex. As in "Female Orgasms" and Tristan's "Rough Sex" films, each scene is introduced with interviews with the performers, who tell Tristan exactly what it is that they like about anal sex (and the person they're about to get some anal sex with). Interestingly—though not entirely surprisingly—there are a few common themes that get repeated throughout the interviews. The ladies mostly talk about how intense (and intensely pleasurable) anal penetration is, the men hone in on the taboo thrill. Both of these sentiments pretty accurately describe how I felt about the sex that followed.

It's a little hard for me to pick a favorite scene, because they're all so good (and so different). I loved watching Kylie Ireland come with a Hitachi on her clit and most of James Deen's hand in her ass, I thought it was super sexy that Danny Wylde rocked an njoy butt plug in his butt while fucking Adrianna Nicole's ass—and who could say no to watching the likes of Bobbi Starr and Mr. Marcus bang it out on camera? But I think I have to give the highest marks to the final scene between Nina Hartley and Christian XXX, if only because everyone gets fucked up the butt. Oh, and also because Christian fucks Nina in the pussy while she's got an njoy Eleven in her ass; and because Christian comes with Nina's strapon inside of him. (Did I mention that this movie is about everyone getting their butts done?)

At this point, I feel that it's necessary to make a comment on the way anal sex is presented in virtually all mainstream porn: namely, that it's shown as something you can do with almost no effort or preparation, as if the anus were as ready and willing as the vagina with only the smallest bit of foreplay. I get why this is the case: preparation and lube aren't usually a part of people's fantasies, and it's fun to dream of anal sex that doesn't require all sorts of advance preparation. But it's refreshing to see Tristan involve warm up and lube application and toys in her anal scenes; more importantly, it's exciting to see that she makes these things sexy. Take note, young anal players: the journey can be as thrilling as the destination (and without a long enough journey, the destination can actually suck).

So, to sum up: this movie is wonderful. Tristan is wonderful. Butt sex is wonderful...if you're doing it carefully and correctly. And if you're not sure about the last part, well, pick up a copy of this film. Heck, pick up a copy of it even if you're an anal sex master. It's just that good.
