Porn For Straight Girls: Jessica Drake Explains Anal Sex For You

I was pretty excited about reviewing "jessica drake's Guide To Wicked Sex: Anal," since I'm generally a fan of educational porn. And yes, it was great, but a lot different from Tristan Taormino's or Carol Queen's videos. Let's break down how.

jessica drake (no capitals, really) is, in fact, a porn performer herself, as well as a radio host and a Playboy model. I trust her to know what she's talking about with "wicked sex," but she doesn't have the same expert qualifications as Tristan or Carol. She also approaches her subject differently; she opens by addressing the female viewer as having picked this DVD because a husband or boyfriend asked for anal sex. I found that a little off-putting, even though she followed it up by suggesting we might be curious ourselves. It felt contradictory to the message of the film to put the man's desire before the woman's. But maybe I was just nit-picking. jessica's "lecture" portions were interwoven with interviews with the performers and mini-scenes of those performers demonstrating rimming, fingering, toy play, and penetration.

jessica was good at talking through the warm-up to penetration, discussing toys, lube, and her own personal preferences, but the interviews with the performers themselves were much better. Mr. Marcus and Asa Akira were paired up. (Again! Yay!) Mr. Marcus talked about the first, disastrous time he had anal, which was messy and just not sexy. Asa talked about her first time happening accidentally, which made her fearful of the pain for a long time. They were fantastic about discussing cooperation and communication between the partners. And of course their mini-scenes were hot. There's also a long scene with each of the two couples, with an option to have commentary on or off (I chose off.) The long scenes were both great, and I wish there had been more of them.

Dana DeArmond and Ramon Nomar were super-adorable during their interview. Dana wavered between being technical and being dirty; she offers up that, "You can eat and have anal sex, on the same day," while also warning us that "shit happens!" Ramon laughed at her every time she said "fuck" or "cock" in a slightly embarrassed tone. Um, Ramon is really hot. He has this crazy-thick accent and says things like "my pleasure is in her pleasure." But in the accent. Also, their long scene was gorgeous and totally fun.

There is a third couple at the end, Lyla Storm and Jeremy Conway. jessica claims they are a real couple, but as they're both porn performers, their scene isn't as interesting as, say, the real-life couple in "Gush," who were just enthusiastic sexually liberated young people. They talk about their negative first encounter with anal, and then embark on what is apparently a fairly novice experience. I was skeptical, although I did think they did a great job of going slow; I just felt that casting professional performers as "novices" undermined the educational aims of the movie.

This "guide" was a good learning tool for anal sex and had some great porn in it to boot, but it lagged behind others in the same arena. Tristan Taormino understands that watching performers communicate and hesitate is a valuable part of the learning experence, and Carol Queen does as well; in contrast, jessica drake's film felt too polished and traditionally "porn-y" to provide the same sort of model. This would have benefitted from being less professional and more spontaneous.
