Kansas City Woman Falsely Identified As A Porn Star Awarded $1 Million

Kansas City resident Ashley Patton has had a whirlwind couple of years, following a claim by one local radio station that she, Ashley Patton, was porn star Ashley Payton (pictured above). Now, according to XBIZ (link below), she has been awarded "$250,000 in actual damages and $750,000 in punitive damages."

The incident occurred on a 2012 broadcast of “Afentra’s Big Fat Morning Buzz” on 96.5 The Buzz, hosted by Afentra Bandokoudis, known as “Afentra,” and Daniel Terreros, known as “Danny Boi.”

During the show, the hosts asked listeners if they knew of any local porn stars. After two text messages referencing an Ashley Patton, the hosts Googled her name and turned up pornographic images of a woman with a similar name, Ashley Payton.

So rather than doing any, you know, actual research, they did what any other wacky morning dj would do after receiving text and google confirmation. Posted her name on their website, along with a link to the podcast.

Entercom’s lawyer Fritz Riesmeyer acknowledged that the hosts’ actions were offensive, explaining, “A mistake was made that day, no question about it. However, it was an unknowing mistake.”

Look, these guys made an honest mistake, they just didn't give a shit. I think that's ultimately what the defense's counterargument would have had to boil down to. Either way, good on her for making this happen. Maybe she could do a tour of the country and shut down some other wacky morning djs.
