The Dunham Family’s Obsession With Vaginas Doesn’t Stop With Lena

Man, I'm torn on this whole controversy surrounding Lena Dunham. It's like my two least favorite things in the world (right-wing ideologues and Dunham herself) are colliding in a perfect storm that I just can't ignore. Then, just when I thought I could put it all behind me, out came these paintings made by Dunham's father that are just... pervy.

If you're not up to speed, basically everyone in the world loves Lena Dunham--except minorities, Muslims, people from Detroit, starving artists, porn stars, the right wing--okay, so white hipsters basically love her. She was a media darling despite her proclivity for constantly shoveling her foot into her mouth, but that all changed when excerpts from her book were published, out of context mind you, that indicated Lena may have sexually abused her sister. Now, I only mention the out of context thing in fairness, because in context, the excerpts are actually even more damning. 

Even The Daily Beast, a bastion of liberal ideals, called on white feminists to dump her. So let's turn back the clock for a moment and discover where Dunham's obsession with vaginas came from. Apparently it came from her father Carroll, who loves to paint colorful yard sale-ready pictures of women facing away from the canvas, exposing their enormous genitalia. 

Now, here's where shit gets really real. These paintings were brought to our attention by Breitbart.com (link below), one of the nastiest, mud-slingingest, right-wing websites on the planet, and I truly hate to give them even a moment's attention, but it does perhaps shed some light on where Lena's obsession with her sister's vagina came from.

Maybe she wanted to find out if everyone's vagina hangs down between their legs, encircled by a tuft of hair. Look, I'm clearly grasping at straws here, and I would never seek to excuse what she did, whether I was a fan of hers or not, but it does make one wonder... What the fuck is with this family and vaginas?
