Politician Follows Belle Knox On Twitter, Claims Account Was Hacked

If Anthony Weiner taught us nothing else, it's that politicians and Twitter don't mix. On the surface, it seemed like Suffolk County New York Executive Steve Bellone missed that memo, but then he took a page right out of Weiner's playbook, claiming his Twitter account had been hacked after it was discovered that one of the 267 people he was following on the site was Belle Knox.

According to the New York Post (link below), Bellone couldn't pass the buck fast enough for all this, first saying that his account was run by his staff, and then saying it had been hijacked.

Bellone, a married father of three who is up for re-election next year, insisted he has no idea how his account came to be linked to Knox.

“County Executive Bellone’s Twitter account, which is operated by his staff, has been hacked and an obscene Twitter account was subsequently followed,” said his spokeswoman, Vanessa Baird-Streeter.

“A formal complaint has been filed with Twitter and to the third-party software used to assist in managing the account. His staff has instituted stricter security protocols to ensure an incident like this does not happen in the future.”

The Bellone aide also said that “law-enforcement authorities have been notified and the Suffolk County Police Department is currently investigating.”

Yeah, this is going right to the top of their to-do list, I'm sure. Is he gonna claim this was North Korea next? Either way, the staffer that did this is my new hero.
