Before I Worked in Porn by James Deen

The most recent occupation I had before my career in adult films was as a Starbucks barista. I worked there for about two years, from 16—18. This is not the interesting part of the story. The good part is how I left the job. After I started performing regularly in adult films, I soon realized that it would be impossible to continue both jobs. It wasn’t that tough of a decision, and I eventually decided to leave Starbucks for the illustrious world of adult films. I tried to give my resignation, but the manager begged me to stay. I declined, but he offered me more money than the Jew in me could resist. For six months I tried to leave this job, and each time I was given a raise.

In the end I wound up as a part-time barista making the same as, or more than, a starting full-time shift lead. Eventually, I decided I was just going to try and get fired. I don’t think I sold a drink for three months. I left the floor to repeatedly have sex with customers in the bathroom or in the parking lot. Both me and my other co-workers referred to the boss as “my bitch.” I got drunk at work and even served alcoholic coffee beverages. I was not the model employee. After months of escalating inappropriate behavior, I was finally terminated for “giving away Frappacinos for fifty cents”. My response to this accusation was, “That’s it?! REALLY??? You couldn’t find any other reason to let me go?!” 

The walk out was better than “Jerry Maguire.” I went onto the main floor and screamed, “Well, whatever! I’m gonna go start my own coffee shop where you can get drunk and smoke crack!” The room was silent, and the only sound for almost an entire minute was the horrible, patron-friendly coffee house music. Finally, after a good amount of awkward silence, one of the shift leads quietly said, “I want to smoke crack.” The entire room filled with laughter and the regulars all cheered. I stole a coffee crumb cake and walked out the door towards my newfound, clothes-less career. I never did start that coffee shop, and I highly doubt I ever will. I did start JamesDeen.com though, and that’s just as good as a coffee shop.
