For David Duchovny, Art Foreshadows Life

Once upon a time, David Duchovny was known for playing the sardonically irreverent Fox Mulder on The X-Files, but these days he's mostly known as either that guy who looks bored in everything or that sex addict actor that's not Michael Douglas. Any fan of The X-Files will tell you that Mulder had an obsession with porn, but as this supercut proves, it was far more than a plot device. It was actually a bit of sly foreshadowing of Duchovny's eventual—almost—downfall. 

This video comes to us courtesy of TV Guide (link below), and showcases something I hadn't really noticed before. Despite being a fairly big fan of the series—up until those awful final two seasons—I had never thought Mulder's porn addiction was a case of an actor bringing their own life into the life of their character. Upon seeing these all smashed together, though, it's pretty obvious that Duchovny got so engrossed in a porn mag between takes that he just decided to make it Mulder's thing too. 

Look, I have no idea what Duchovny gets up to in his free time, but he has admitted to being a sex addict and his most iconic character is known for a porn addiction, so it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to put two and two together. Whatever happens with this reboot, which most certainly can't be worse than this horse shit, I only hope they bring back Mulder's porn addiction. Something tells me Duchovny's already on top of this one though.
