D. Cypher Has Delivered Beautiful Porn for Us All!

D. Cypher is a jack of all trades in porn, and he is being inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame at the upcoming AVN Awards Show later this month. I have known him for years and I am honored to call him a friend, but I can honestly say that even if he was not my friend, I would still and always will admire the fuck out of his talent and deft skill at delivering the best outcome in any situation. That creativity in this very dirty business is something that I try to utilize in my own life, and when I watch his movies, it is all there on the screen.

Cypher has done it all in porn. He has performed in scenes, he has written screenplays and written for adult websites including this one, he has directed and produced, and he currently owns and runs his own publicity firm for adult performers. His clients are certainly very lucky to have him. I wanted to educate you all on this guy because he is one of those "who's he" names that fans don't know. He is in the credits of some wonderful movies, but let's face it: A lot of fans don't read the credits. They don't even read the credits in mainstream movies. I am often the only person sitting in an empty movie theatre, learning as much as I can about the movies I love by watching the last of the places and names crawl up the screen. The people who make our porn—men like Cypher—are important because without their vision, the porn we all enjoy wouldn't be there or if it was there, it would probably be total shit.

Here are five Cypher titles that you should take some time to acquaint yourself with. I promise that they are all worth your time and money.

"3 Day Rule" and "Breathless" for Wicked Pictures

It's not often that I list two movies as one item as part of this feature, but both of these movies deserve to be here, as do the two in the other twofer in this feature. "Breathless" gave Cypher his one and only AVN Award for Best Screenplay. The movie was directed by Michael Raven, but without Cypher's scripts that Raven only had to give minor tweaks to during production, it would not be the same bit of brilliance. I was a dedicated gonzo/wall-to-wall fan and the story of this movie—an adaptation of the Jean-Paul Belmondo mainstream film—moved me to tears at the time when I saw it. It is a sexy-as-fuck feature with then-Wicked Girl Devin Lane starring as a small town girl wanting more from the world. I wanted everyone to see this movie back then, and I still feel that way. See this movie with someone you love and see it if you are alone and wanted to change your world.

Cypher has directed one title for Wicked Pictures during his career, and this feature starring then-Wicked Girl/current AVN Hall of Famer Kaylani Lei stars with Brendon Miller as a former couple who decide to live together as friends because they live together well. It is a light movie, but it accurately captures the emotional truth of being too close of a friend with an ex. The truth of the performances in this movies makes them hotter, and you can see that Cypher did his work helping these performers find the best way to show that part of their own lives through their characters.

"Confessions of the Heart" for Club Jenna

Remember Club Jenna? Fuck, they made some great stuff. Cypher wrote and directed this feature about four friends forced to confront their relationship failures and how their lives have been forever changed by each other over a holiday weekend spent together. It's moody, passionate, and cast with killer female talent including Kimberly Kane (who will also be inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame this month), Nautica Thorn, Riley Chase, then-Club-Jenna contract girl Roxy Jezel and Sammie Rhodes.

"Prisoner" and "Wonderland" for Metro

I used to be an enormous fan of Metro's product and "Prisoner", written and directed by Cypher and starring Justine Joli, Nina Hartley, and Brittney Skye, was what the company used to be capable of producing. Skye plays a drug-addicted porn star who ends up with drug-addicted porn agent/actual AVN Hall of Famer Steven St Croix and Skye's struggle with life feels as real as it gets. It's got one of the few scenes where (fake) hard drugs get used during a porn scene and it becomes a hot, intense prison-themed porno that will stay with you for a while.

"Wonderland" stars St. Croix with Noname Jane (formerly known as Violet Blue before she was sued) Lola, Charlie Laine, Katie Morgan, Candi Summers, and Trina Michaels in a story of a man dealing with his midlife crisis and his attraction to younger women. Back in 2006 when I first saw this, I said it was "erotic and original—a must see," and I still feel that way. It's an interesting way to look at the attraction that some men consume those "ingenue" titles with.
