Feature porn performer Jay Smooth is a hardworking man in porno. He was nominated for the AVN Award for Best Male Newcomer back in 2015 and he works for all of the top companies, starring in a ton of big features. What kind of guy were you back in high school? Who did you hang out with/date?
"I was kind of a popular guy. Although, I wasn't like a typical jock type, more like a shy jerk haha. I dated couple girls in high schools. One of them was very popular and she had a nickname Britney because she resembled Britney Spears in her style and look. I've always been more of a relationship type of a guy than a party animal."

Were you a porn fan before you got into the industry? Who were your favorite porn stars/favorite porn movies?
"I wouldn't say I was a fan but I became fascinated by porn. My biggest porn crushes of my teenage years were Tawny Roberts and Sophie Sweet (aka Sophie Moone). My very first porn movie I watched was still on a VHS cassette. Probably younger generation doesn't even know what it was, ha ha. The video was very amateur looking with Tom Byron who became my favorite male performer when I was growing up."

What kind of scene have you found is your favorite kind to do so far?
"I would call the genre Glam-Gonzo. I would describe it as a very passionate sex scene with a beautiful and sexy female looking glamorous who starts with a tease and then we go straight to sex and the focus is on the intensity, connection and passion until the finish. I am really into making the connection with my co-stars. I also like good quality scenes, with sexy people involved. Since it is a sex scene, I want to focus on the sex itself and how it progresses versus a story that leads to sex."

What/who do you want to do on-camera that you haven’t done yet?
"I have never done a reverse gangbang where I would perform with 5 females of my choice. That's still something I want to do. Maybe I could even produce it myself."

Who is your favorite performer to work with so far and why?
"It is difficult to name one. I have several favorites. All of them are positive, respectful, fun and super sexual performers that are real treats to be on set with. They are Layla Sin, Heather Vahn, Cherie DeVille, Mercedes Carrera, Natalia Starr, Elsa Jean, Adria Rae and Riley Reid."

You respond to your fans a lot on Twitter. What do you like most about talking to your fans on social media?
"One of the reasons I have social media is to engage with my fans. I am generally open for any discussions as long as they are handled in a respectful manner. I don't tolerate hate and negativity on my forums. I am grateful that I have a very positive and loyal fan base. Most of the discussions are related to my work, scenes and suggestions. Sometimes there are some humorous accents to all of that. I may look serious but I am a goofball and I like to make fun of myself."

How did you become a porn performer? What led you down that career path?
"I have been intrigued by this industry since I was a teenager. I always felt that I am a very sexual person and I loved to perform. These two combined look like a clear recipe for this career choice. Although, I wouldn't call porn a career. For me this is another, additional job that I do and I love it."

What do you most want to achieve in the industry?
"I want to show to the adult audience that porn is not necessarily what the stereotypes are. Porn can be very positive and pretty. Sex is a very positive force, it creates life and it should be associated with positive reception. I also want to build a brand that will be recognized and respected within the industry. I think with my recent work over the last year or so I definitely made a big step forward to that goal."

What is one thing you would teach a man who wanted to be a better sexual partner?
"The most important thing for men is to understand that if you want to be a better lover you need to take care of your partner first. Make her feel comfortable, warm her up, pay attention to details, foreplay. You need to communicate with your partner, pay attention to her body language. Too many men are rushing and are selfish. Maybe because of some of the porn they watched and treated it as an educational video. Porn is a fantasy. Some of it is like a commercial with a stuntman with a message 'don't try it at home' ha ha."

What do you love most about being in porn?
"Being able to fulfill many of my sexual fantasies and be surrounded by people who share similar views of sexuality and sexual expression. Porn is an entertainment platform but also it provides the platform for freedom of expression and speech. Many of us, performers, are an inspiration to people all over the world who are being repressed and discriminated because of where they live there is no freedom to even openly watch adult content. Porn is much better than violent movies that are played all over the mainstream television."

What do you think are “must-have” DVDs for your fans?
"Tell Me Something Dirty and Spoiled from Wicked Pictures, Bare Ambition and Sex Rules from Penthouse, and Love For Sale 2 from SexArt, to name a few."

What do you like to do for fun?
"As a former professional athlete, I enjoy sports and gym a lot. I love to hike, read, go to the theatre, travel around the world and play quite a lot of XboX games. Want to challenge me, LOL?"

What are your favorite fetishes to explore on camera?
"I have a foot fetish. I love to play with sexy nice feet. I really like good oral. I like to fulfill my fans' fantasies by playing with their favorite fetishes. I am receiving many orders for custom made videos that include some of their fetishes. There is always something new that I learn about that."

Who are your role models in porn?
"I don't really have role models. I look up to the more experienced, male performers that not only accomplished a successful career but also made smart business decisions and maintained a relatively normal family life."

What is the best mainstream movie you have seen recently?
"I have watched all the SAG-AFTRA and Oscar's nominated movies and I must say there are so many good ones there. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri and The Disaster Artist were my favorite ones."

How about the best porno movie? Is there someone whose movies you like to watch who is working now?
"I don't really watch porn anymore. If I do it, I do it more for analyzing my own performance and believe me, I am very critical of myself."

What is coming up for you?
"I've worked on many projects recently and some of them are coming out now so stay tuned as I am usually posting updates on my twitter. Also, there is a website in the final stages of the making that I performer for but it is going to be a POV based website that is highly anticipated by many of my fans because of the massive facials I am quite known for."

If you could fuck any celebrity, who would it be?
"I think it would be Jessica Alba. I think she is a very sexy woman."

What single piece of advice would you give a brand new male performer?
"Do your research, reach out to other performers for advice and help. Be very respectful to the women you work with and to the directors and producers. If you have a good agent, then they should guide you right. When I started I didn't have any of that and had to figure out all of it by myself. It wasn't easy but I am happy where I am right now."
