There's always been an intuitive relationship between the female body and automobiles (though sometimes that relationship expresses itself pretty explicitly), but artist Liz Cohen takes the concept to its logical conclusion in her current "Bodywork" project, in which she's spending two and a half months in a Stockholm car factory overhauling an East German prolemobile into an American muscle car while simultaneously adding some fast curves to her own chassis in order to transform herself into a bikini-clad auto show model. The live installation is described as part of a group of works in which "one of today
s most fundamental social issues will be explored and analysed to generate discussion and debate"—but even if you don't know much about art, we're sure you'll find something to appreciate if the whole hot-babe-in-a-garage thing gets your motors running as well.
