Napster Gets Dirty

SPONSORED

napster_ad.jpg

Remember the good old days of file sharing? More than a few companies I worked for ended up setting up dedicated data servers to keep all the MP3's we downloaded from Napster in a central location. Then they started blocking Napster's ports (which sounds kind of kinky if you think about it); then Napster was shut down and we all switched to Gnutella and Bittorrent, which also offer more in the way of porn. In case you haven't heard, Napster has been reborn as a subscription music rental service—rife with DRM and incompatible with iPods—and they've resorted to a striptease commercial (with a fuck-you-iTunes punchline) to arouse potential customers in the UK. We're still not tempted to switch back, but at least their advertising is making us take a second look.- J. West/JD
