Perhaps great art can come from great tragedy (though Sir Paul McCartney's post-9/11 "Freedom" was a pretty lame song)—and perhaps there is something the porn world can do to aid the victims of Katrina that doesn't seem, well, mercenary. Painting in the nude is a solution for most things (it broke up the tension at the Potsdam Conference, I can assure you), so maybe Mary Carey has the right idea. Mind the gap.- G. Ponante

Mary Carey will be painting in the nude for charity September 23 at Kick Ass Pictures' downtown Los Angeles warehouse.

"We're not sure if she's going to be putting paint on herself and then smudging up against a canvas or if she's going to be just painting while naked," said Mark Kulkis, engineer of Carey's California gubernatorial campaign, her date to a recent White House dinner, and Kick Ass Pictures' president.

The Kick Ass Art Show allows four Los Angeles artists to display their work in a traditional L.A. setting, "with all our porn tapes in the background," Kulkis said. Kulkis is the lone art arbiter, and selects four individuals for each show. The artists keep 100 percent of all sales.

"The people that show up are more of an art crowd than a porn crowd, "Kulkis said, "but we'll be having porn stars serving drinks."

Carey will disrobe at midnight and create a piece that will be sold to benefit Katrina relief.
