Checking In with AVN Female Performer of the Year Nominee Whitney Wright

We Are All Wowed By Whitney

Truly lovely porn star Whitney Wright is up for AVN's Female Performer of the Year Award and her work all year has been dazzling, hot stuff. It seemed like a great time to check in with her and see how she felt about this latest honor.

So how are you, Whitney? How are things?
"I’m great! I’m still on a high from the nomination parties. Ha ha! Now I’m just making sure to get all my preparations done before AVN week."

Congratulations on being nominated for AVN's Female Performer of the Year! How does it feel to receive this honor?
"I was completely blindsided by that nomination. I was honestly thrilled when I got two nominations for my acting, and when I heard them announce my name as a nominee for Female Performer of the Year, I was so shocked. I think I screamed 'WHAT?!!' LOL! It’s a blur, but I’m really so honored to be in the same category with such big names in the industry, especially just two years into my career."

You are also nominated for Best Actress-Feature for your work in Wicked Pictures' "Cursed". What did you enjoy most about your role in this?
"I loved being in this because it was such a fun role to play. I got to be a Freaky Friday-esque character that was in another character’s body, trying to get back with his ex-girlfriend while simultaneously trying to get back into my own body. I loved how different it was and I had a great time as that character."

Your work in Missa X's "The Governess" also got you a nomination for Best Actress-Featurette. What do you remember most about making this?
"The entire script is nothing short of brilliance and originality. Missa writes all the scripts and is an amazing writer. All her characters have these interesting personalities, pasts, agendas, etc. that are worlds apart from one another, which makes the viewer awe when you witness how the characters’ paths cross and how they collide into each other. The Governess was unique in that Jill [Kassidy] and Chad [White] were bringing in an outsider, myself, into their home for the position of a governess, and as the plot thickens, the viewer discovers that Chad and I have a dark past, and Jill discovering me was no coincidence at all. It was an intense role and I was thrilled to be chosen for the part."

You are also up for Best Group Scene for your work in Pure Taboo's "Future Darkly". What do you enjoy most about working for Pure Taboo?
"God. Everything. Ha,ha. I love working with Bree [Mills] and Craven [Moorehead] so much. They are the ones that really gave my start in acting roles. I started shooting for Pure Taboo, and after my first two scenes, the acting roles came flowing. I started to feature in more films and get more roles as the lead actress. I’m still so grateful to them for taking a chance on me, as I’d never shot for Gamma before being in 'A Mother’s Choice'. I remember talking to the make up artist, Lisa, about being so excited to be shooting for them for the first time, and wanting to do a good job and then Bree came in to the makeup room with her laptop to show me one of the previously filmed scenes, talking about what she wanted. She had so much excitement and energy about this series that was just starting to launch, which in turn made me excited and want to work harder to really sell it. Fast forward to today, and I have 7 scenes on the site, 4 upcoming scenes, and some really exciting projects with them coming up next month."

Your scenes are consistently super. What do you think is the most important factor in making a great porn scene?
"I think being proud of the final product that you’re putting out is vital, I think confidence is important. When it comes to the sex scene, I think passion and chemistry are the most important things you can bring to it. When it comes to the acting, I think there are several factors, but I think the most important ones to me are doing character breakdown, scene breakdown, and really making it believable, no matter what your role is."

If for some reason you do not win Female Performer of the Year, who would you most like to see take the trophy home?
"I can’t pick between Angela White and Abigail Mac. They both have had explosive years and both have hearts of gold, along with being industry icons."

What are you proudest of, of all of your work this year?
"I don’t know if I could choose a specific scene. I was proud to become a Twisty’s Treat in April and a Girlsway Girl in June this year. I AM really proud of my acting, and the classes I took for months to become a better actress. I’m proud of the broad range of companies that I’ve worked for and how far I’ve come."

So what else is coming up for you?
"Just planning on continuing to climb at the rate that I have been this year. I have several projects that are coming up in the next couple months that I’m really pumped for."
