Fleshtunes–The Ike Diezel Edition

EDITORIAL FEATURES

Ike's Picks!

Performer Ike Diezel (shown above helping co-star Mya Mays out of her bra) is a super cool guy and he was kind enough to send over his Fleshtunes. Enjoy!

Hard pressed to pick 5 favorite songs. I grew up in a home full of musicians, but I'll throw out 5 that I enjoy a lot. There's a large array of musical styles I'm into.

"Couleurs" by M83: M83 makes me happy. When I'm in an outdoor setting, their music makes me happy. They emerged with great albums during an era with terrible music. I respect them for that.

"Slaughtered" by Pantera:' Anyone that knows me could probably guess this one. This is a song where Pantera displays their abilities to be a technical band while still remaining humble in their abilities. It's the greatest metal band at their best.

"Sign of an Open Eye" by Gorgoroth: This song is a great reminder that everything we do, is in our control and not someone else's. It also hints that the loner "The Goat" may be more in tune with what's happening in life, more so than a sheep that doesn't have the patience or strength to sit alone, in return gaining wisdom from thinking instead of drowning out thoughts with other peoples influences.

"A Dangerous Meeting" by Mercyful Fate: This is one of the first bands to come out with evil lyrics and satanic imagery during a time when televangelists and christianity started storming the world on mainstream media because of the Reagan administration. Always respected this band for being brave enough to come out and say who they were. Also highly technical, outstanding guitar riffs and complex guitar solos.

"Life By The Drop" by Stevie Ray Vaughn: Growing up in Austin and Dallas, it would be impossible to deny my blues roots. This song is Stevie Ray Vaughan singing about the difficulties of overcoming alcoholism, which is how my father passed away in Austin, Texas a few years after SRV died. SRV was our hometown Michael Jordan or our Elvis Presley when it was happening, none of us knew how big he would be. It's Texas music at its core. So I pay homage to the King of Blues.

"Reptile" by Nine Inch Nails: I remember listening to Nine inch Nails for the first time and thinking ' this is what I want to do'. The complex song arrangements lured me in as a believer in not limiting myself while making music. It was refreshing hearing a band that didn't sound like anyone else. When I watched them play live, it thrusted me in the direction of industrial metal. It's hard to nail down five favorite songs for me, but these are definitely some of my lifelong favorites.
