"We just were commissioned to create three shows in a year, and Peepoodo had to be super cheap! So this gave the very basic preschool setting. And then I just mixed the two things I love the most: comedy and porn. The educational aspect came from the preschool idea, but afterwards. It really made the show, at least the first season. There is a horrible first pilot where it was just random crude jokes and it sucked ass, because it lacked the genuineness of learning and was too edgy for its own good. It was really shit. "I love how people go into the show with a 'it looks fucking stupid' approach, or even 'dang, that cat has huge tits', but a few episodes in, the show won them over in a deeper way. They're learning some stuff, they're having some genuine laughs (and disgust), and they are loving the characters. That's a huge gift to resonate with people, especially with a stupid looking show."

"The larger than life aspect of it is fun. Comedy becomes bigger, the horny hornier, the sky's the limit and imagination can run amuck. Also, from the creative point of view, you are in absolute control of what, how and when you're showing. So that mix of ultra controlled craziness is very appealing. You can show something you can't show in real life too. The animation or the drawings are at the core of what fiction and imagination is. Everybody is very focused these days on representation, and being faithful to what is true in reality--rightly so may I add, but there is a huge part of fantasy and unrealistic, impossible, escaping to a classical discourse, that is very important to preserve and acknowledge in every work of fiction. It's more blatant in animation than in live action, in a way."

"It's a big mix of French, American and Japanese. I especially love how Japanese can jump from comedy to strong emotions to fan service and hit a bullseye on each term. I love FLCL by the Gainax studios, for example. That's the kind of thing I look back at regularly to remind me how cool that medium is."
