A contract employee at the Vanderberg Space Force Base commissary was caught recording unsuspecting women in the employee bathroom.  On November 10, last Thursday, Aung K. Zin was charged with one federal count of video voyeurism. He pleaded guilty and admitted to having set up the bathroom camera in December 2020! After almost TWO YEARS of violating the Video Voyeurism Prevention Act of 2004 (Public Law No: 108-495 (12/23/2004), Zin was sentenced to three years supervised probation and $325 in fines, as reported by Justin Rohrlich for The Daily Beast.

Dear reader, we all know a woman we love. Imagine this happened to your partner, mother, sister, niece, or friend. Would YOU say that she reasonably could have expected privacy while using the toilet where she works? In this case, Zin was targeting women, but anyone can be a victim of video voyeurism. Honestly, can you imagine finding out that the office creep set up a camera two years ago and has recorded everything you’ve done in the bathroom since? It's fucking gross and scary. But what is equally frightening is that the punishment, which exists to deter people from committing crimes, was a $325 fine and probation. According to federal US law, anybody guilty of video voyeurism can be fined, imprisoned (not for more than one year), or both. I wish I could understand why they don’t have to register as sex offenders.

I am not writing about voyeurism as a kink but as a crime. Humans are naturally curious animals, and the advent of technology has facilitated aggressive efforts to penetrate people’s private lives. However, legally, voyeurism is defined as “the secret viewing of another person in a place where that person would have a reasonable expectation of privacy for the purposes of the viewer’s sexual arousal.”

On January 5, 2022, a complaint was filed when a video recorder was found under the sink in the commissary’s employee restroom at the Vanderberg Space Force. The investigators that conducted a forensic review of the camera’s memory card managed to recover images that had been deleted. “They depicted four nude women using a toilet and two images of the suspect.” Aung K. Zin, whose nickname was inexplicably Eric, worked for Advanced Fresh Concepts (AFC) and provided sushi services to the commissary. I feel the jokes about him serving sushi at the tips of my fingers, but this is serious.

Of particular note, he is not required to register as a sex offender as part of his probation. The worst kind of pervert is the kind that doesn’t care about consent. Consensual non-consent is a thing, and if you are into voyeurism, many willing participants will play along.
