The XCritic Interview: Angela White

Late November is always the moment that every actor in the adult film industry is on pins and needles. Picture this, you have just spent the last year looking to raise the bar yet another level after setting the record for most wins in a single year at an award show and then creating a film that simply changed the way that filmmakers create cinema in this domain of whimsical lust we all know and love. That is what Angela White faced heading into the 2019 year. As if the hardest working human being in the adult world did not have enough on her plate, one that routinely keeps her up till all hours of the day and night working, she began to join forces with companies and people that would either show off another side of her immense passion for this business or sexuality or it would be a massive failure. As of the AVN Awards Nomination Party 2020, I think it is safe to say that Angela White has done it again. In addition to a third straight Female Performer of the Year nomination, ‘Angela White: Dark Side’ from Jules Jordan Video received eight AVN nominations, including Best Star Showcase, and Angela’s own AGW Entertainment produced title ‘Angela Loves Women 5’ received three AVN nominations, including Best Director – Gonzo/Anthology Production and Best Cinematography. Angela is a woman whose films all have a bit of her within them and I speak in the highest regard to her artistry. This is a woman who devotes so much to ensure her fans are never caught watching the same kind of film twice. Angela would look at that as cheating her fans, her passion for them is just too much to allow such a thing and that is what I had to sit down and discuss with her, this game-changing film that is going to forever change everything we thought we knew about Angela White.

Don Juan: So, how have you been? What have you been up to, it has been a while has it not? OK, we are heading out on all fronts for this thing. I am even going to bust out the voice recorder.

Angela White: Wow, are we talking a cassette tape voice recorder? That’s old school.

Don Juan: No, it is still digital. Fifteen years ago, I use to be the coolest kid in school with this thing, not anymore.

Angela White: I use to have an Olympus with a little mini tape. It was always reliable.

Don Juan: Oh, my goodness, you know what you made me think of? OK, now let me see if I remember correctly, you either finished your education in Paris or you there at some point for your education, am I correct?

Angela White: Yes, I went to school in Paris. I was attending the University of Melbourne and went on exchange to the Institute of Political Science in Paris. I spent a year living in France.

Don Juan: I knew that we had a conversation like this at XRCO. Paris, France is my favorite place on earth. I am beyond jealous you attended school there.

Angela White: Have you lived there? Or is it just a place that you have visited?

Don Juan: Both. I did for a very, very brief period. I have vacationed there, lived, partied, was young there, spent time during my military days there, oh there are so many occasions that have made that city the one I am the fondest of. It gets lovelier the older you get I have discovered.

Angela White: Did you have the opportunity to study there?

Don Juan: No, I would have loved to have studied there. Truthfully, if I would have studied there, I would have probably never come home. (We both share this massive laugh. I love to try and duplicate what the joyful boasts are of the performer of the industry. Angela, hers is like that old friend whose laugh is so unique and just wholesome, it makes you feel at ease if that makes any sense.)

Angela White: Oh, well we are glad to have you.

Don Juan: You and I are cut from the same cloth, my friend.

Angela White: Thank you (She and I are laughing so hard she is catching her breath getting into Angela White mode as we hunker down for the interview. That is Angela. It is something magnificent.)

Don Juan: I am excited about this. I have some tough questions for you and even more so, I must hear your point of view on certain things within your films. I have been dying to hear this from the woman that is Angela White more than anything. I want to know, two years later after we first spoke, two Performer of the Year trophies later, what has changed for Angela White since we last spoke?

Angela White: Well, when we first spoke, I had only just moved to the United States and I was still settling in. Now I feel like I am really a part of this incredible adult community, which I had dreamed about being a part of when I was all the way back in Australia. It has been an incredible journey. I have worked with countless directors, companies and so many incredible performers. All of which has culminated in these incredible titles and the experience of working on those sets will be memories that I treasure forever.

Don Juan: You have made such a mark and impact on this industry. I think more so than any other woman possibly could have. Part two to this question, how do you keep things fresh for the fans after you engage in such amazing productions like you have this year?

Angela White: I am passionate. I’ve always been fascinated by sex and sexuality. That is what motivated me to get into the industry in the first place and the excitement that I feel when I am expressing and exploring my sexuality it is still there. It has not dulled; it has not died. Every time that I get on set, it is new, and it is exciting. I still get that exhilarating feeling always. It goes back to my passion which really keeps everything “fresh” for me.

Don Juan: Wow, if that is not the secret recipe to happiness in life period, I do not know what is. If there is something, I could say is honestly the coolest thing that I could let the fans in on. Wait, you just made me improvise this question. You know what I would love for you to tell them? I would love to tell the fans simply what one of your days consists of. Letting them in on how hard you work your butt off day in and day out showing that passion is a story I would love for you to tell. I admire that so much about you woman, how much you put into this business.

Angela White: Well, let’s just say that every day is different. Because every set is different. To give the fans an example. I will talk about one of my days on set for Perspective. On this day in particular, I was up at seven AM to get ready, shower, do my make-up and we did not finish on set until the next day at six AM. For me, that was a twenty-three-hour working day. Not every day is like that one, but that’s an example of one extreme. (We are both laughing but there is also this warmth that carries in the conversation. Angela has more days like this than I think she would tell. She is simply such a hard worker and person who does love what she does you would never hear her complain about any of it.) On the other extreme, I might only be on set for four to six hours for a quick gonzo day. Regardless I wake up around the same time each day, around seven. If I have time before heading to set, I will go to Pilates, then I will pack my bag, getting everything I need and head over to set. When I’m not on set I’m running my business and maintaining my social media accounts.

Don Juan: So, I must personally find this out. Does the entrepreneur known as Angela White; does she believe in eight hours of sleep? Or is that a bunch of malarkey?

Angela White: Oh, I wish that I could get eight hours of sleep. I believe that yes, it is very important for health but sometimes, duty calls.

Don Juan: I am the person who always answers duties calls first as well. Therefore, I call you the soldier woman. I have told you this so many times. The first time I ever saw you going to town on social media at two-thirty in the morning I said what is this woman doing up and it is has been pure inspiration since.

Angela White: Yeah, yeah, …… (She has that guilty laugh that is what I define as vintage Angela. It is the guilty pleasure of the work-a-holic to snicker out our lost time to our passions.) I think I am just going to thank my passion once again because that is what I believe can keep you going no matter what, especially when it is past your bedtime.

Don Juan: You know, my favorite question to ask the great minds of the world, the trendsetters, the discoverers of new land, I am so intrigued to find out where it is you gained your work ethic from. Who instilled such wonderful ferocity and dedication into you?

Angela White: It is part of my personality. When I do something, I throw myself into it wholeheartedly and it was the same, for example, when I was at university. I just worked 24/7. Whenever I set a goal, I am laser-focused. I do not deal with distractions. I just stay on point. Part of that is a personality trait. It once again ties into my passion for what I am doing. When I am excited about something it drives me. I do not have to constantly seek external motivation because I am already excited to be doing that thing.

Don Juan: Oh, my friend. That had been pressing on my mind for a few years. You know, whenever a writer starts to create questions, especially with you, so many things go through a person’s thoughts. What an insight into who and what you are. Outstanding. I can honestly say I have never seen anyone else who possesses what you have and what a sight that is to see. It is people like you who show the world that anyone can achieve anything if you put your heart and soul into it, no matter what that may be.

Angela White: Thank you, that means a lot to me.

Don Juan: OK, now we can move into the cool stuff, YEAH! As I have seen your work with Jonni Darkko over the years, this latest project has been wonderful. I want to know what it is like being on set with you and him? It must be a combination of two art lovers just going at it to create something that is mesmerizing to the eyes and mind.

Angela White: I love shooting and collaborating with Darkko. He is an incredible friend and he is obviously an incredible artist. I think that we work so well together because we share the same vision. We really do love “pretty” porn that gets filthy.

Don Juan: My goodness, you have just coined a phrase that I think the entire adult world has been trying to come up with since Mr. Darkko has come into existence. Perhaps what we needed was that brilliant touch that is Angela White to make such creations possible? To be able to hit both sides of the glamourous and debaucherously lust-filled side of adult film making, I look at the cover of A for Anal and my goodness, how beautiful is that cover. Look at you. It is as if something new comes to life when both of you are together. I can tell that you both all went out on this one.

Angela White: Yes, I absolutely loved the outfit that we used in that scene. It was very unique with the stirrups and ….

Don Juan: Oh, sorry to interrupt but my goodness, how you stand out among the other starlets. I mean the pasties, the hair, the collar. It is a blend of beauty that is what makes that cover become something that latches onto the memory section of your brain as a viewer. Your brand is something always beautiful but when you are with Jonni, things just go up another level and you both always manage to top the previous project and look.

Angela White: We collaborated on that outfit as well. Jonni was the one who bought stirrups and said, “I want to do something different.” So I went to my drawing board to craft an outfit that would work well with it. The pasties, the collar, and the crop were my idea and I thought it would go well with that piece.

Don Juan: You know the truth of fashion is that the little things like the collar matching the red that is mixed in with your heels, those are the subconscious pieces of marketing genius that turn fans into art lovers, not just passionate adult film fans.

Angela White: Thank you, I am detail-oriented.

Don Juan: That is the understatement of the century. (As I try to stay professional with Angela, it does get hard at times to not laugh when speaking of such details. Nothing that is ever presented is left to chance and that is something that becomes humorous whenever I get to speak to Angela because it is like this magic crystal ball where what she puts out becomes this massive hit.) … and that is why I love you to death.

OK, now we get to the bread and butter of what I have wanted to discuss with you because it is not just a topic in the industry, it is something the world is talking about right now. Over this last year, I have gotten to do a lot of work with Evil Angel and yes, the category of Trans and certain films have become a part of my workload. First off, I feel like a new human being after immersing myself in this genre and looking at parts of my persona and sexuality after seeing something so mind-blowing as this genre. I am just in love with these beautiful women and long story short, being that this has changed my outlook on my sexual journey in life after letting my mind become just open to so much, what was it like with your sexual journey in the business when you got to create a scene in the Transgender, especially in your upcoming film Angela Loves Women 5?

Angela White: With Angela Loves Women 5 the casting, as you can see, Ana Foxxx, Alina Lopez, Autumn Falls, Natalie Mars, four, incredible, passionate women! That is how I cast all of my movies, I pick performers who I know are incredibly sexual, giving, connecting partners. You will notice that in Angela Loves Women, I do not call Natalie Mars a “Trans” performer, I do not even mention it. Natalie is a woman and she rightfully deserves her place in Angela Loves Women 5. So, for me, it is not so much about it being a “Trans” scene. This is more about it being a beautiful scene between two women.

Don Juan: Masterfully said by a mind and heart in the business that makes things so simple in life, not just this industry. Angela, that is an answer that is so amazing, and I feel the same way. Being a man who has discovered this for the first time, I know people have questions, they have thoughts and my goodness, you show us a simple truth about human sexuality that even I could not have explained this well. I absolutely think this is the greatest question and answer I have ever been apart of, I mean that. I think it is ways of thinking like this that open many doors and not just within the industry.

Angela White: I think that is how this scene should be seen.

Don Juan: Angela, this film looks so amazing. The cast, as you said, it is ambitious. I must ask this for the fans, how is this Angela Loves Women film going to be different from the rest? How are you going to top the previous award-winning films of this series? Can it be done?

Angela White: Any time I direct or produce a movie, I am always looking to increase production value. I always want the next movie to be better than the last, and with Angela Loves Women 5, I feel the whole team was successful in achieving this. The cinematography is phenomenal. My long-time cameramen Sal Genoa and Alex Ladd captured the sex. But I brought on a third cinematographer, Chris A., to capture the intros. Everything about the movie is very natural, from the lighting to the color grade and skin tones, to the setups. I feel we shot some amazing footage in and around Los Angeles with Alina Lopez, Ana Foxxx, Autumn Falls, and Natalie Mars. And having the incredibly talented Jay Allan on board as a photographer only furthered the production value of Angela Loves Women 5. I really think my fans will see immediately that this latest installment of the Angela Loves Women series is “next level.”

Don Juan: Jesus woman, I am excited beyond belief now. I can only imagine what this film is going to be like. Your cinematography is something that blew the competition out of the water the previous four years.

Angela White: Have you seen the trailer?

Don Juan: No, I have not.

Angela White: This trailer is something I am very proud of; you must see this trailer. Once you see this trailer for Angela Loves Women 5 you will know exactly what I mean. (Angela has this charming tempo come over her voice as she speaks to me about what the trailer has within it. I can only compare it to times where I sat down with musicians and they eagerly looked to play me a chord from their next album’s biggest song. That is how much pride she has within this creation. She and I chat a bit more, but she urges me to stop the interview and she will wait patiently as I watch. No words can describe that.)

Don Juan: My goodness, when I see this, I feel as if I am transported back in time and I am seeing the Playboy channel for the first time. Oh, the lighting is wonderful.

Angela White: This series is one that consistently has natural lighting as a big part of the presentation of the film. This is a production that always has that softness to it. It is delicate, it is beautiful, it is feminine. It has a playfulness to it that light and breezy. It is romantic and it is everything that I would want to see in a Girl/Girl movie.

Don Juan: (I am sitting and listening to Angela, it is almost like she is narrating the movie trailer for me. As she speaks of softness and romance, flashes of Ana Foxxx, Alina Lopez, and Angela fill the screen up with passionate kissing and whimsical frolicking and we are not talking this type of phony, bogus looking acting slapped into a scene. It really looks and has a feel like Ana and Angela are girlfriends.) I really love the people that you brought in on this film. What is see so firmly in this production is that yes, you are bringing in the hottest stars of 2019, but it is more than that. With Autumn Falls, with Ana Foxxx and the rest, you are bringing in the next generations of superstars and this is the type of film that they are meant to be in. You go above and beyond always and yes, I think you have outdone yourself.

Angela White: (As if she is reading my mind she then says, …) After this conversation, I want you to promise me that you will watch the trailer with sound. This film has the exact vibe that I was looking to create. (This says so much coming from a director and artist who seems to always guess right when she is making these films every year from chapter one to chapter five.) When you set out to make a movie, you have a vision; you have these thoughts of where you want this creation to go. You want to be able to have your audience feel what it is that you are trying to put out there into the world. I think it is all due to the crew that I had, the performers, it was just executed to perfection. I could not be more grateful and thankful to everyone involved, the entire team.

Don Juan: You know, being a person who is such the perfectionist who will watch a film over and over again to try and see what the director and writer were intending, the first thing that pops into my head with this film is how gorgeous it is. I mean this is one of the most dazzling sights I have ever seen. I love these little references to great films of sexuality from the past, whether they were intended or not, like the white bikinis on the beach, my God woman, there is something that comes alive within the mind when you see this. (I am literally being the loudmouth reporter, screaming in her ear, telling her how much I am in love with just this trailer and I hear her humbly laugh. Now, Angela is a woman who I believe to be an artist first, it is her sly, intelligent way to add zest to her films that makes so many minds become enamored. That laugh means to me that she set out to get these reactions and nothing tops that as a director. I have heard Angela speak many times about her films, this one, it really seems to be something that she has so much faith in and made her way.) Then I see you and Ana, this vivacious, ferocious performer like yourself and here you both are, in this “girlfriend” experience that is something I have never seen. I have never seen Ana shot that way, ever!

Angela White: Now that means a lot to me. She turned out to be even more perfect then I could have ever imagined for the casting of this film. Ana is the type of performer, she got it immediately. I wanted to be able to once again, put out that vibe that I had a girlfriend and that we were actually falling in love. It gives me goosebumps whenever I look at this production because you get that feeling yourself of what I was trying to convey. I believe that fans want to feel that within an adult film. I think fans want to feel that love, feel that vibe and that emotion. I really feel that this movie delivers that.

Don Juan: My goodness, I am glad I asked the question, “how can you outdo yourself?” You have already done it within this small clip that you have sent me. What I see with the fan inside me, I get this Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue vibe mixed with frolicking and play with that Alina scene. You both are two of the most stunning women in the world, but we see Alina being this character, this rascal. I know that sounds cheesy but that is romance. That is where true sex appeal comes from. Laughter, humor, smiles. My senses are in overdrive as we get set to see this film launched every which way. One of the last questions. How long did it take you to shoot this film?

Angela White: It took five days, which I think is amazing in terms of how much we were able to capture within that time period. We were on the beach for quite a few hours. It was so incredible what we were able to get in such a short period of time. I was the happiest with how committed this team was to get something created like we did with that time frame and with limitations that come with any production. There is nothing better than working with people who are all committed to the same outcome.

Don Juan: This is amazing. This is what adult cinema was always intended to be. Angela, I can not thank you enough for your time. You are truly a wonder of this world. Something to be given “landmark” status because you put so much into this business. You have said it all best in this interview, so I will let you close with any words you may have for your fans.

Angela White: Well, of course, I want to thank all my fans for all their continued support and for coming with me on this incredible journey. I love all the lovely comments that I get on Twitter and of course, buy this movie because you are going to love it.

Is there anything that the fans, the critics, the skeptics of this industry do not love of Angela White? I honestly pose this question to you the reader. 2020 brings about Angela’s third straight run at AVN Female Performer of the Year and you bet your fucking ass that she has a massive chance again to do what no female performer has done before. There is no award that goes higher than this honor. That is the ceiling and what came to mind when I completed this interview was how can Angela win another award? That answer is as simple as the one I posted a few paragraphs above when asking her, “how do you make Angela Loves Women 5 better than the last?” This year, she made adult film history with a massive Hollywood premiere alongside Bree Mills and Adult Time Media that drew a buzz that this writer has not seen in decades within the adult industry. She was able to jump into the sexiest ring on earth with Kayden Kross in the vastly high selling film Drive that seems to get a new review every day by the fans, the writers and everyone who stumbles across this combination of epic sexuality, fantasy, and story. Fourteen nominations for this superstar of the modern world. That is something that has been earned, something that I know will continue to drive Angela to places that we did not think possible in the realm of adult films. For a woman who began as a Girl/Girl performer from the “Land Down Under” she is opening doors for so much and so many with work that is as award-worthy, as it is groundbreaking. The release of Angela Loves Women 5 shows us that Angela is taking the life-changing reality of discovering one's sexuality and turned it into a business, an art, a way to truly self-medicate and more so a path to discovery that is so essential to happiness and living, I have no doubt that within ten years, it will not just be the adult world that has Angela White as a household name, it will be every single red-blooded human being who discovered the power of their own sexuality all thanks to a woman who has a vision, a drive, an unselfish way of life that made them see the importance of loving thyself and sharing that love with one another.
