The XCritic Interview: Alexis Fawx

As the awards season comes to a close, we spotlight both a film of the year and a performer. Now, I know that all the ballots are in and someone out there in the land of fantasy knows who all the big winners are but before we get to the next big awards show I think one person in each of those categories deserves the spotlight. For a decade now, Alexis Fawx has been the woman of our dreams and I am talking both fan and performer alike. Since day one this world traveler has been sought after by the biggest production companies, the biggest directors and well, you know what else. That is Alexis. A woman of firm passion, great wit and the deepest conviction in a performers brand and career then anyone I have ever seen. Alexis is the woman who gets what she wants because when she says she is going to deliver, she does it. This superstar of the adult industry has yet to collect a gold trophy despite the fact she was living her deepest sexual fantasies long before she ever stepped in front of cameras. She is the real fucking deal. The expletive must be included even though this woman’s grace, beauty & elegance is something that has set trends and molded minds in the industry with every stunning look she takes on. This is a woman’s woman and you better bring you’re A-game when you meet her because that is what she brings day in and day out, period! In this interview, I had to find out what this film meant to Alexis. A film nominated for Best Star Showcase at AVN and Best Girl/Girl Film Non-Feature with XBIZ. This film is, to me, the best film of 2019. It is a look into the world of creating an adult film through the mind of one of the most visionary artists in the industry today and what will be of all time. No other film puts the fan in the chair next to “the girls” like this film does. It is not as easy as you think to create such a film and today before the last trophies are handed out, we find out why Alexis Loves Girls it is the best of the best.

Don Juan: To jump right into this thing, in all the times I have interviewed you, I do not think I have ever asked you about what inspires you when it comes to art, my favorite art lover?

Alexis Fawx: Now, what medium are you talking about? We talking music, or paintings, photography, pornography? (One of the most amazing things about Alexis Fawx is her wealth of knowledge in anything you can think. In the half-decade I have known her, there is no subject I have ever seen or discussed with her, that she is not so vastly versed in.)

Don Juan: Nice, you are going to throw that one right back at me. Let’s go painting and sculpting. What painter inspires you the most?

Alexis Fawx: Well, I do not know if it is inspiration or it is something else that this falls into. There are a lot of painters over the years that I love. We can go all the way back to pieces created by Rembrandt or look at Escher’s paintings or Hannah Yata, I actually own one of her paintings. I don’t know if it is inspiring, or if it is that I see myself in it. To me, art, in general, is just something that engages you on some level. No matter what it is, it is something that just engages people differently. So, I don’t want to call that or them inspiration, I am simply a lover of art. If you were to look at my social media pages, you would see my story tells a tale that is basically retold with what I have seen and quotes that I have read or heard. I think quotes would be something that truly inspires me. I will wake up and have this word in my head and throughout the rest of the day I will be looking up the definition of it, following it to where it leads to a quote and finding out who said this quote. It is something as simple as a word that can truly inspire my day.

Don Juan: My goodness, …... (I don’t think I have ever been able to capture Alexis and her “simple sophistication as I call it. She is a woman who can take you on a journey past the clouds and limits of your imagination just telling you to look within who you are and what is immediately around you.) I love where you are going with this because I have always been fascinated to know what inspires a woman like you.

Alexis Fawx: Well, let’s go down the line, shall we. Let’s talk about music. It is something that is stuck in my memory and it makes my body move. The vibrations that are filling your cells up with movement. It is something that sparks so much creativity within me. It is a creativity that takes me deep within my own thoughts. I have had many times where music will inspire my thoughts to create new brands, new companies with passions that I have in day to day life. This in return takes me on this journey to discovering new philosophies that are different from my own. When you spend a lot of time by yourself, it is something so important to be able to have that freedom of silence and that is where I find that I get the most work done. I think we live in a society where we are constantly surrounded by distractions and we feel that we must take part in these distractions. Your Instagram, your Twitter, I mean look at Las Vegas where I live. It is filled with nothing but distractions of life. It is like we are all being coddled like children. Maybe we are all a bunch of children, but we call ourselves adults.

Don Juan: I honestly could not agree more. I was just talking about this the other day with a close friend.

Alexis Fawx: I have this amazing book that is coming in tomorrow and I can not wait to read it. It is by Joshua Becker and his book is about minimalism. Seeing what I do for a living, being a woman in the adult industry. We have all these things like jewelry, we have our outfits, our lingerie, shoes, toys, a clutter of shit and I hate it. I know this is something that will cause turmoil within my body and I just do not like that. I got his book to do more with less. It looks like a great read; you should check it out.

Don Juan: Well, yes of course. Anything that you tell me to read, I am on that shit. Being a real writer in this business and my art form that I love to express myself with. I think there is nothing better than transforming a way of life into words. Now, to move onto the film side of things madam. I really must tell you; Alexis Loves Girls is the best film of 2019. That is my choice with every circle I roll, and I am proud to say that.

Alexis Fawx: Awwwwwww, thank you! You know, my inspiration for that film and I think I have told you who my favorite pornographer is in the past. Andrew Blake. I always liked his work because he always brought erotic films to the front and center of the world. Everything he created was so erotic. Being a woman and I can not speak for all women, but I think there are a lot of women who are turned on by a lot of stuff that is erotic and has this intensity between two people. I think that action is far better than silliness when it comes to what turns on a woman.

Don Juan: That is something so wonderful to speak about. You know darlin’ here at XCritic we just hired a few new amazing women and they are going to be doing film reviews and I think that is such a great step for XCritic. To have women reviewing X-rated films, that is what we need more of because as we have discussed before, women watch adult films too.

Alexis Fawx: Yes, it is true.

Don Juan: Oh, you have my mind going in so many ways with your thoughts and vision of the world. We will get more into the role of women in the business a little later, but I would love to know, who came up with the concept for Alexis Loves Girls? You or Ricky? This film, I felt as if I was on set with very close friends. You made this film a true look at how a film is made and how performers' true characters are more than what fans could ever think in some instances and that is a great thing. You put fans in a position they will never get to see again. That is how powerful that film is and how much emotion and reality are captured inside of it.

Alexis Fawx: Thank you so much that means a lot to me.

Don Juan: So, how did the concept of this film come to be? Was it Ricky Greenwood who came to you, or was this an idea you had always had in the back of your head and perhaps you presented it to the powers that be at Mile High and they said: "let’s make this thing?”

Alexis Fawx: Well, I was a Girl/Girl contract star with Sweetheart Video, and it came time to do my showcase and I told them what my concept was for the film. I went to them with this notion of creating a very artsy film. In my mind, the things that kept popping into my thoughts were beauty, art, and this vibe throughout the film that exhibits that, you know what I mean? There are performers who I wanted them to show who they really are inside. The staff was good at helping me to let these concepts come forward. For instance, with Ana Foxxx, I knew that I wanted to use paint because she is so beautiful, and she is so artistic herself. That is where it came into my mind to make an art piece with her. (She laughs and you can tell the thought of the art that she created just built up with relieving what had to have been on amazing day of art and creation.) Aidra Fox and her sensuality, it was just fucking incredible. The way we just connected was incredible. She is so playful and that once again translated into something so lovely. I feel that she is so sexual in addition to that. It was so fun. Then, we got to get to the intensity of film. That scene with Angela White, oh my God, it was just perfect. It was so cool to be in this scene with such a great mind and be able to play with it and be wild. She is an incredible fucking performer. Whitney and Katrina and being able to be eaten alive by those two was something that was fucking phenomenal. You know this when you are pairing people together who may or may not have worked together, because Whitney and Katrina had not worked with each other either, which was so cool. You think to yourself, “Gosh, I just hope this all works out.” It truly came out better than expected.

Don Juan: This film really turned out o be something amazing. You fucking rocked it. When you create a film and you put it in other people’s hands, you leave it open to interpretation and sometimes people don’t get what you are trying to create or say. With this film, you accomplished what you set out to do, I will tell you that right now. If you had to choose one thing that is your favorite aspect of this film, what would it be?

Alexis Fawx: The experience itself. Everything from start to finish. Making everything come alive. That was the second project that I had creative direction on. My first was with Pure Taboo where I got to pitch the idea and we put it all together. When you start something like this, everything becomes one singular thing right when you begin with casting. I am up for best actress for another film but this one is up for Best Performer Spotlight. I was nominated for a few other things with this film that is still always nice to be recognized because there is so much that goes into this one thing. As of late, I have been finding it the most remarkable experience to try and take what is in my head and make this variant so that others can read your concept and centralizing that in the real world is pretty fucking cool when you stop and think about that is what you can accomplish for just one day. It is all about that journey.

Don Juan: I think that since we have last spoken, you have mastered yet again another form of creation, of goals. Elevated your mindset to be something superior and unrivaled to what most human beings’ function and think on a daily basis. I love getting philosophical with you. Since then, have you done any more massive creations and collaborations with any other production companies?

Alexis Fawx: Since then, I did what is now a four-part series with Brazzers that just came out in October. That was Voyeur Next Door. I wrote that, starred in it and worked with the director here in Vegas as well as the producer which was really fucking cool. Now I am on my fourth project in total, the second one for Mind Geek and that is a three-part series that we are filming for Digital Playground, which I wrote, did all the casting. If you were to ask, I would say that Charles and I are co-directing it. He is someone who I have been working with in LA and he is the guy who makes it all happen. It is very sexy; it is very erotic. As of today, we have shot only one part of it so far. We are doing this project a bit different; we have shot part three and all that I can say is was a group of people that was truly so fun to work for and with. There was even a day where Charles was basically saying, “OK, you guys wrap it up, we got what we need!” (We share this wonderful chuckle. Alexis is a woman who is as sexual as you would think she is. One of the most passionate human beings on earth. There is a reason everyone has a crush on her and it is moments like this, that we both chuckle at, that show who she truly is.) It was a set where everyone was just smiling and laughing, everybody was fully engaged in the process. It was something where you walked away from set that day and you just felt really good. Everybody had a really good time; everything went in order and as planned.

Don Juan: Now, I hope you do believe me when I tell you this, you were the woman who truly sparked this phenomenon of adult industry talent becoming directors, becoming writers. You were one of the first starlets who was doing double duty, had their shit together and showed a passion that no producer could deny. When I watched Alexis Loves Girls, I could see so many parts of you in this film. I shed a tear. This film was alive and that is because you are that true artist. You are the real deal. I honestly hope you always know you have made that big difference in the industry. I am so excited to see what comes to fruition with all your upcoming work. You work so hard and now that you are stepping up to the plate like this, damn it, if it fucking kills me, you are going to get a gold trophy.

Alexis Fawx: I do not know if I am ever going to get a gold trophy. (We massively laugh and joke as Alexis and I have talked for years about the effort she puts in and what critics and voters look for. She is a woman who one time asked, “How does one win.” I am not talking about padding the game or cutting corners, Alexis looked to see how she could step up her game four years ago because that means something to her and we do laugh about this running joke we have of me going postal if she does not win, it is because she is one of the hardest workers who does not ask for recognition. Perhaps she always has been a minimalist and she just did not know it.) I am cool with the nominations though.

Don Juan: I AM GOING TO GO INSANE IF THERE IS NO WIN FOR YOU! AHHHH! (More great chuckles between us.)

Alexis Fawx: Well, I did win Best MILF Award from XCritic. That was totally fucking cool! See, I am award-winning. (She has this wonderful pep in that statement as she says it. That means so much to me. Performers like her deserve that peace in their voice.)

Don Juan: I have always wanted to see you succeed. Yes, I root for success with everyone but with you, since the moment we first spoke, I had met all these people in the business. Man, woman, performer, director, photographer. People who had a crush on you, people who were just fans of your work and then they work with you. Their mind of blown and they all say the same thing to me. This gal knows what she is doing. “My time on set with her was unforgettable.” That is a director speaking in that last quote. So, to get back to the fun shit and I think I know what the answer is going to be, but I still have to ask it. Alexis Loves Girls, that is the greatest Girl/Girl cast EVER assembled. Aidra, Ana, Angela, I really must ask, do you still get those butterflies when you are working with superstars like all you screen partners in this film. I would be shitting bricks.

Alexis Fawx: I get nervous with everybody. No matter who it is that I am working with I still get nervous one way or another. I love everybody equally. I get nervous every single time, which, I think everyone does. There is always something when you need to create that visual connection that the viewer needs to see and be able to connect to that fantasy. You want to make sure that everything goes well and yes, there may be some of these stars that you look up to like Angela. Now, does that add to the nervousness? It makes me nervous either way, I am just that type of person. I care. So, when you do care, that makes things a little bit more nerve-racking. You want to make sure that everything goes well. I always want the other person to feel something and make sure that everything is going well in their eyes and become something beautiful. To me, that is what it is all about. At that time, I am thinking about the make-up artists and pushing her to make something beautiful in mind and then Angela walks in with all her shit. She has her test, she has her name, that wonderful attitude, she comes with her name shining bright and big. She has these big suitcases she comes rolling up with and I am telling the make-up artist: “Make us beautiful, it calms us down.” I kind of demand that now. It is not because I am mean or that I am a diva. Example A: I do not even fucking like make-up, I do not ever plan to learn how to do make-up on the level that they know how, no, that just is not me. So, when I am shooting, I am going to need it done either way we look at things. It is the calm before the storm, especially if you have a big scene coming up, or anal, or this is a project where you are cast lead, whatever it fucking is, whatever the case may be, the calm before the storm, the artist is talking to you and he or she is talking to you and making you beautiful. The talking is something that calms your nerves and then you are ready to go about your day. This is something that should always be the standard. It needs to stay the standard. There have been sometimes when I have been asked, “Do you want to come hair and make-up ready?” Are you kidding, this is the way we defeat our nervousness on top of becoming beautiful for the shoot! Little do they know; I will come looking natural because that is beautiful to me. (We share another massive laugh.) I don’t know, me gluing my eyelash shut may not work for the day. This is something that is not about me, this something for all women in this industry.

Don Juan: So, the next part of this question, can we expect to see Alexis Fawx behind the camera any time soon? I think that you have a leg up compared to anyone else in this business. I think it would be something special and great, not good for the industry to see you directing. Will we get to see films, fully directed and created by Alexis Fawx, is that in the stars?

Alexis Fawx: I would love for that to happen one day. I think that is a natural progression for what I am doing within the industry. I think there is still for me a lot to learn, so I am taking each of these projects as something you must take something away from. I learn so much everything I step on set. I am very detail-oriented, so now I am constantly looking at what I need to add, what will make everyone’s time on set easier and have my vision come through at the exact same time.

Don Juan: I would love one day to see your name in those credits. I know whatever it is that would be your first massive project, it would be true cinema and that is what once made this industry great once upon a time. So, in closing my friend. I have asked all the tough questions, now for the biggest. What does winning an award at AVN mean to you, right now in your career? What would taking home the gold for that film mean right now after all you have seen and done in your many years?

Alexis Fawx: I think it would be super fucking dope! (She laughs, that beautiful, contagious laugh.) I really think it would be. It will be ten years in this industry when July 2020 rolls around. So almost halfway through another year basically. It would be cool to finally take something home. I really mean this with so much sincerity, I am really happy with just being nominated. I looked at that category and I looked at who is all nominated with me and there are all these really amazing, really beautiful, super, incredibly talented individuals. I never really go prepared. (Wonderful laugh) At least not to win and whatever happens, I am good with where I am with my life and my career. I think it would be silly for me to say that it would be anything but the coolest fucking thing to happen. I think when you are in the top ten of a category, when there are literally hundreds and thousands of women in this business, that is what makes it cool, that is what makes it special.

In Closing……

To be the woman who speaks with action is not something very common these days. Neither is Alexis Fawx nor has she ever been. The foodie, the porn star, my fellow former servicewoman, she is so many things and much like our conversation, Alexis Fawx is a woman who simply can be defined with one sentence, one paragraph or maybe even one memoir if she chooses to write one someday. Alexis defies convention and not in a negative way. She is a woman who in my opinion has elevated her mind to a place that all of us search for whether we know it or not. Alexis has spent a lifetime of discovery in ways that any one of us can accomplish and I think she would be the first person to tell us that. This world has come up with many labels for people who think and live as free as Alexis does and most are derogatory. Gypsy, hippie, flower child, guru, rebel, nonconformist, libertine, Pagan, I could go on forever. What this woman is to me, she is the product of what can be accomplished when you have faith in yourself. When you discover that fear is truly a prison and that hope, love, compassion and free thought is the key that sets us free from our own confinements at time. Philosophy seems to be a forgotten thing in this modern digital age and what a wonder it is that the most unique mind this writer has ever come across, he found and befriended in the adult industry. The last place society ever told me I would. If I could ever say thank you to Alexis for one thing, it is that she taught me that power only corrodes the powerful mind that has a weak heart. That you must always follow that heart no matter where it takes you in life, even if it is across the globe, or into the arms of someone sparks thought within you that you never knew you had. That is Alexis Fawx. It always has been, and it always will be. This film we spotlight, it is something that shows what is on the inside when it comes to a porn star and not just any porn star, the biggest names in the industry. Alexis shows us that there is so much to what we think we know if we open up our minds and thoughts to what could be instead of “what is.”
