The XCritic Interview: Jenna Sativa

In every walk of life, in every industry, every job, hobby sport, and competition there are words that get thrown around to show excellence, hard work, making it to the promised land. Legend, hero, star, winner and my favorite icon. You can say that all those words are tied together, synonyms if you want to get technical but I think everyone has their own merit and meaning especially in the adult film industry. Most people would think, how does a hero come from pornography? The true definition has to do with courage and being the best. If you think that it does not take courage to model nude, let alone act and create something as visually brash is as sex, then you know nothing of what these models and industry personnel do. Sex is for most people an intimate occasion that is more about feel and touch than sight. Porn creates that mystique of beauty and admiration. That is not easy. What else is not easy is being a performer who must compete against thousands of equally magnificent women and try and outshine them in ways that require thought, artistic presence and passion in so many ways. That is what you must do to be the best. To be an icon, you must literally outshine the best of the best. The people who gave up years of their lives to pursue a career that few ever have the chance to be apart of, let alone succeed at. That is what makes our featured model and performer so special. For seven years, this woman has simply been dedicated to making beauty but what is even more amazing is the story of where she came from and what is within her heart that has led to a career that has turned Girl/Girl cinema back into the most widely searched genre in the industry. Jenna did more than open doors with her amazing charisma, charming personality, and great work ethic. She gave inspiration and hope to those who were told Girl/Girl is not the career path to have in the industry but even more than that, as you will learn with this article, she shows the world what a true icon of this industry is.

Don Juan: (Our conversation begins talking about marijuana and how it has been beneficial to her in ways that people would never know. It saved her in so many ways as an adolescent, which is why I believe it has always been a part of who she is in the adult industry.) I remember seeing the YouTube piece where you were with all these other strong women in all walks of entertainment and life and you all were speaking on marijuana and what it did for you. There were writers, actors, comedians. You were so strong is talking about being in tune with one’s sexuality and were this combination in life goes.

Jenna Sativa: Well, I grew up very fast. Like I was telling you, I was working when I was in high school and I was a part of this club that was made for kids who had jobs and were still attending school. It was a trip to think about now because I not only had all these things in my personal life I had to take care of and my work life but now I had this club I had to be a part of. On top of all of that, I had my own place that I was living at, I was emancipated, I paid rent and everything. I feel that it is weed that slowed everything down for me and helped me and helped me to focus on one task at a time. It is something that aided in my success. That is the truth because there was a lot on my plate. Smoking cannabis helped me to be the woman that I am today. Being able to get all the fucking shit done reinforces that you are something special. Especially if you have something like anxiety making things feel so big and intimidating. No matter what you do, thinking is involved. Even when I am performing, there are times when you start thinking about what you are going to do. Up until this last year, I had not had time to game a lot and I found out that I could make money with my skill in gaming and my wonderful fan base. Before, I was a woman working every day performing. The video games have been such a wonder and relief for me. It is almost like cannabis to me. Playing video games, I do not feel anxiety. I have been finding ways to incorporate things that make me feel better into my job and that makes work not really feel like work. When I am doing my adult work, I can explore my sexual side and celebrate my nudity. That is a part of me and with gaming, I can be the other side of myself. I am a really goofy and nerdy person. I am a huge dork. People who watch me on my stream they get to see that other side of me.

There are so many wonderful communities that I have discovered in my career. I love the cannabis crowd. I love going to conventions and meeting people from all over the world who grow these different strains and they recommend what works for different situations and stress or pleasure. There are so many secrets to cannabis. The people are so willing to share tips that help them in everything with the cannabis culture and I have found that surrounding myself with these very positive people has led to a have such a blessed life.

Don Juan: Darlin’ that is the coolest story ever! You totally have my mind spinning in thought, now I do not know what I was going to say. That does not happen often. The world needs more women like you. Keep doing what you are doing. It is that positive vibe you speak of that we must surround ourselves that makes such a difference.

Jenna Sativa: Thank you, I will try!

Don Juan: For question four, so, my sweetheart and one of the loves of my life, one of my best friends in the business, she is a survivalist, well the school she went to was a survival school. So, she knows how to live off the land and I know you are a lover of the great outdoors, so, I must ask, is there this person inside of you, because I can tell by your aura you love the wilderness, are you that person that would live off the land instead of some smoggy, stinky city?

Jenna Sativa: Oh, big time! I do love to travel, and I do want to see as many cities in the world if possible. I do want to eventually retire off into the woods with the classic log cabin, this amazing pool and an area that would have this massive cave to be able to explore. I could have a spot for all of my animals.

Don Juan: Your aura gives off so many things and one of the other things I saw was that you are a huge animal lover, que no?

Jenna Sativa: Plants and animals are my thing.

Don Juan: So, here is what I must ask you, well first, I have to say more about my boo because she is this incredible animal whisperer, she has such a connection with animals, I have seen her go around these mean dogs, dogs who even bark at me and they have nestled up to her and gone to sleep in her lap.

Jenna Sativa: We have a lot in common. That is awesome and too funny.

Don Juan: When those mean, yet cuddly dogs would do that, I was like, “what the fuck!” (Jenna responds with this wonderful laugh and charm. I can honestly tell you she is the kindest performer I have ever spoken with. She is as gentle as a cloud and has a charm that you simply can not turn away from. I am writing this interview and literally am listening to our audio as if it is not even me talking to her, that is the comfort she creates with her kindness which goes beyond anything I have ever seen before.)

Jenna Sativa: Yes man, I love dogs. Well, I love cats too. I am more of a cat person than a dog person, cats, they love me too even though I am allergic to them. Cats will just come up to me, all types and cats are very independent creatures. They are not like dogs in that sense but for some reason, cats love me, and I have to always shoo them away because I am allergic.

Don Juan: Me too!

Jenna Sativa: It is just so crazy; I mean it is the most ridiculous thing ever.

Don Juan: I actually love cats so much that when I was in high school I wanted w a white kitty so bad and I got one and would endure the pain of the reddest eyes and the craziest rashes and skin irritation but I held on as long as I could before I had to give her away.

Jenna Sativa: I actually had a black cat in high school!

Don Juan: That is fucking awesome! I love it, dude! 

Jenna Sativa: You thought that was funny. My cat actually thought he was a dog. (I am laughing like fucking George Costanza ready to piss in my pants, if only you could hear this laugh. That is the joy I think Jenna sparks with everyone.)

Don Juan: You are too much woman! Holy shit, OK, to get serious. I must ask because my love for animals and I hope this does not sound too bad, I hate people so that is where my love for animals blossomed massively as a kid. So, what I am dying to know is where did your passion for outdoors and animals come from.

Jenna Sativa: I don’t know, I think it just has always been there. I am a very lovable person and I love the ocean; I love the heat; I love the temperature. Most people think it is too hot and cannot stand it, but I love it. I can thrive in this weather and climate so much here in Miami. I can walk around in a bikini all the time it makes me always feel right at home. The ocean is like home to me. I lived in California and I loved the mountains, I loved what nature had to offer out there so much. My thing in California was going waterfall chasing. The sand dunes, the beach dunes that are all up and down the coastline from north to south. The beaches there are so different though. You can not really go swimming. The water is not swimming water. It is cold and it is dark that is the only way that I can describe it to you. It made me miss Miami so much. Some of the best memories that I have growing up are me and the beach. Ever since I was a baby, I was swimming. Literally, they got me out of the hospital, and they put me into the water. Yes, it is just instinct and that is why I have just always felt home in nature.

Don Juan: That is so fucking cool!

Jenna Sativa: Nature offers this comfort to me lie nothing else. The best way I can describe it is that nature grounds me in every shape and form. If I am on water, or I am on dirt, sand or grass, I feel that I am where I belong with this feeling of harmony and being at home. I do not know how else to put it. It is nature that gives me back my balance. When I was living in California, there was a lot of stress that comes with living in the city and going to all the shoots and making call times. It is always busy, busy busy. It is a fast-paced life living in California. So, I found that for my mental health that I had to go camping every two weeks. In the three years that I was there and I was shooting every day and with that schedule of going out to camp every two weeks I was able to see all of the national parks in California, which was such a freakin’ blessing! It was so beautiful!

Don Juan: That is so rare, there are very few people who have ever done that. 

Jenna Sativa: Oh, I know. There are so many people who have missed the opportunity their whole lives to be able to see nature and have never even been to a single park.

Don Juan: What is your favorite park? Me, I like just everything that is up near Big Bear. It is so beautiful. It is so niche it is like the perfect mountain community.

Jenna Sativa: You know, I think that my favorite place, Joshua Tree is so amazing. It is just the prettiest place. My gosh, there are so many. Shasta is so beautiful too. I have seen Mount Shasta and it was amazing.

Don Juan: My goodness, you are an earth spirit being that you find warmth at a volcano. You love trees, foliage, and vegetation, don’t you?

Jenna Sativa: Oh yes, I do. Being around those things, it just warms my heart. I am smiling ear to ear whenever I am here.

Don Juan: You know, having Native blood in me, “Mother” is what we call the earth and those who are linked to her heart are those who feel that way you do. That is so special. I could talk to you forever about nature. To move to another subject I love, what I would like to ask next, being that I am a video game lover and have always loved the characters that are a part of video games. One of my heroes is Solid Snake from Metal Gear. Since I was a kid, I looked up to every action this character had. I must ask one of the best fucking gamers on the planet, do you have any fictional heroes who inspired you?

Jenna Sativa: Oh my God! Honestly, I love D.Va from Overwatch so much. She is like the cutest thing. The thing I love about her is that she is nineteen and she is such a fucking badass! She is a heroine from Korea who got hired to save the world. She uses her MEKA to protect and to kick fucking ass. She is super cute, and she is so inspiring to me. I have so much admiration I just had that feeling take me over that I have dressed up like her, she is simply a badass. She is truly responsible for me going so much deeper into the gaming world. I mean, I have always been a gamer, I have been playing video games my entire life. There are so many games in my memories in my life that I will never let go because of how much they inspired me. I remember games like Hitman from back in the day, there are so many that come and go in the video game culture, but they stay with you forever. To circle back to who we were talking about really motivated me. If we are going to talk about inspiration, the character that got me to come back around full circle and jump so deeply back into gaming it is the D.Va character. The first time I saw her, I began to start to put the costume together and I really get super excited when I am in my D.Va character. She is someone who I can totally nerd out with her. I don’t know what it is but my love for her is so deep. As a matter of fact, I was playing and watching these little ten-minute short stories that are a part of the game. So, I was watching all the combined videos that turn into one big movie. Her little segment is so cute. If you have not seen it, you need to watch it.

Don Juan: Fuck yes, I am going now. Anything you tell me to watch, I am fucking there. You know, when I met one of the loves of my life, the one who I have been telling you about so much, she tells me as I am trying to be romantic with her and sweep her off her feet, “Hey, I am only like two years past believing that elves, wizards and dragons are real.” It was right then and there I told her, “I love you.”

Jenna Sativa: I love elves and dragons. Well, you probably already know that I play as an elf at least once or twice a week. (We share this heartfelt laugh as truthfully; our nerdy connection brings about the peace she spoke about earlier when you truly immerse yourself in the things that make you happy.) I have been posting a ton of elf pictures on my social media. I actually did this naughty elf show on my premium snap chat.

Don Juan: Dude! Gangsta!

Jenna Sativa: It was so cute, I love it. I think a lot of the stuff that people do is very repetitive. You know, like the porn stuff. Masturbation, dirty dancing, and sex. Then it becomes more masturbation scenes, more sex but then, I realized after I have done it for so long that no one has put me into Cosplay. When I was working every single day in porn, I really wanted to get into costume so bad. You know, now that I think about it, even before porn, even before I was modeling and making money off it, I was obsessed with dressing up, putting on costumes, putting on make-up just for fun. It is a huge hobby for me still. I am telling you; I was so disappointed that no one would dress me up as an elf in porn because I so wanted to be one. I wanted to be an elf, a fairy and a Martian fucking. I wanted to do all that shit. It would be so cool. I have come to the conclusion that I am just going to have to do it myself. Over the last year, I have bought way more make-up. My pallets have grown, and I am learning how to seriously do fairytale make-up. I have to say, I have gotten pretty good with my elf make-up because I have now done it so many times. I am now going to be expanding to other fairytale creatures now.

Don Juan: Yay! OK, you thought you were a fucking dork, you ready to hear how I am an even bigger fucking dork? When I really fell for her and got her a gift for the first time. I did not give her a ring, or flowers. We are both “Ringers” which is a massive Lord of the Rings fan. What I got for her is the Evenstar which is the jewel necklace that the elf princess gives to her love, the eventual king of Middle Earth so that he can return safely to her.

Jenna Sativa: Oh, I had thought you were going to say a video game character. That is so super cute. I can not remember any of the Lord of the Rings, it has been since I was a kid that I saw it. I do remember Smeagol, that is probably the most that I remember. (We share a massive laugh.) He is one of those characters that will never leave your mind. He becomes a part of your brain. Oh my God, I can hear messages from Smeagol. Tell me that ain’t funny. That is what Lord of the Rings does to you. It is my subconscious talking to me as Smeagol. (I then speak to her in my Smeagol voice, which I think I can do pretty damn good, we share a laugh and she says….) Damn it, know Smeagol has my number. Damn it!

Don Juan: All right, last question since I know you got to hit the digital airwaves. I had read somewhere that you were a big fan of pin-up models and that Bunny Yeager was a very big influence on who you are as a model. My question to you is, did you ever get to meet her? Because if I am not mistaken, she lived in Miami before she passed away, I think.

Jenna Sativa: No, I did not get a chance to meet her. I did, however, go to one of her galleries here in Miami. When I took just a step into this gallery, my goodness, gracious this gallery was unbelievable. That gallery was actually off Lincoln road and if you ever get a chance to see it, you have to go. Everything that I saw I was blown away after each piece of art. You talk about being inspired. You know, you asked me what and who inspires me in terms of gaming, let me be the interviewer for a second and I will tell you that Bunny inspires me in modeling. She is a fucking huge, huge, huge role model.

Don Juan: You know darlin’ being a man who hopes to one day be an industry historian like my mentor before me, I think you are one of the modern-day models who has such a deep character that you not only would have been able to succeed in that time period. You would have thrived even more. I am a huge Betty Page fan and I know what models faced back in those days. You needed a massive heart and that is what you have my friend.

Jenna Sativa: You had to be a very strong woman as well. You had to be very confident. It was a time and place where everyone was trying to break you down and what most people do not know, Bunny Yeager was stronger than anyone today would ever know.

Don Juan: OK, you are going to think I am trying to make you jealous, but this is a compliment. I met Bunny more than a decade ago. I am very lucky that this industry has introduced me to some of the most amazing women as well as my writing. I say I met her because honestly, you remind me of her. She literally has that same warmth and cunning style of honesty and charm. How much you two are similar, you both have a reputation for always demanding beauty, for always wanting to make what you do something more than just a picture, or a film or a book. She was so warm like you and this beautiful older woman who made you want to hug her not only for her beauty but how she made you see such wonder yourself. I mean that Jenna.

Jenna Sativa: (Her voice gets very joyful and high pitched) Oh my goodness, thank you so much. You have no idea how much that compliment means to me.

Don Juan: So, to conclude this interview with at least one steamy adult question so we include every type of fan reading. I have told you this before, I am a fan of your work and when I say a fan, I mean a true fan and I am not a fan of most performers. Now, that does not mean I do not like their work but when this is a job, you must focus on being neutral. What separates you is that you are real, I can see it in what you do. You let everything hang out there and you can work with any type of performer on the planet and not only make the scene work, you make it look like a million dollars. If you were to move away to the mountains tomorrow, what film, what scene defines the great Jenna Sativa?

Jenna Sativa: Oh, my goodness, that is such a difficult question. If I must choose, I would say what scene was so special to me and it is because it is with my best friend in the world, Shyla Jennings. The story goes, we shot outside. We are both lovers of the great outdoors and you talk about me being an earth spirit, now she is the one who is an earth spirit. I am telling you man; all the stars were aligned on that day. It was such an amazing day from start to finish. The scene was beautiful, there was no over directing. In a lot of scenes, people tend to give a little bit too much direction to make the scene have a different type of feel and chemistry. This day, that did not happen one time. The only way I can describe it is that we honestly just made fucking love, it was beautiful. What came afterward was even more beautiful. I saw the pictures and saw the video and I was just even more blown away. I was happy that I was able to make something so beautiful but even more so, that I made something so beautiful with my best friend.

…and with that, she simply stole the world's heart. That is simply Jenna. Now, it has been said to end an iconic piece about a person who inspires so many, you should let others speak if they have already said it best.
