Beyond The X: Love, Sex and Throuple Trouble

For as long as I can remember, all I ever wanted to do was direct, write, or produce erotic films. My inspirations were directors whose films lit up the Cinemax, excuse me, Skin-A-Max night sky. One director in particular, who I would say influenced me the most, was a visionary who worked with the biggest names in the world of music. Oh, damn, wait, Lily Craven, who is sitting right next to me as I write this heartfelt entry into my column informs me that he is STILL a musician who has worked with Grammy winning, number one hit acts. Who is this great man I speak of? He is the one and only Will Ryder. It was from this influence that I knew I had to sit down with both the actor and the director to speak of what it is like to make true films in the Digital Age of porn. I think this will give fans a better perspective of what it is really like to be cast in a Will Ryder production. Telling the story of what Lily Craven experienced firsthand with Adam and Eve's Love, Sex, & Throuple Trouble.

So, without further adieu, let’s tell her story of big movie sets, twenty-eight-page movie scripts, and true blue accounts of what it is like to be cast to walk onto the mother of all movie sets in the adult film industry.

Actually, Don Juan, the twenty-eight-page script you speak of was thrown out while I was aboard a flight from Colorado to LAX. That is the truth and seriousness of what my first experience was being cast in a big-budget Hollywood adult film. I arrived at my hotel in Calabasas. I planned to turn in early so  I could make the best impression possible with the crew.  Porn sets can be notorious for performers being late.  I did not want to be that person, especially for a Will Ryder production. Little did I know when I arrived on location, I would be meeting the great Craven Moorehead, who was rumored to be the greatest cameraman of all time. Then I recognized a familiar face, Fleshbot photographer Chris Brody who stepped onto the scene to capture BTS and Pretty Girl stills. I realized I was in the presence of the “who's who” of the adult film business.

This is the way my day started. All the cast soon made it to the set location, Feeling a little hungry, I began to accidentally eat some “stage props” from the filthy kitchen counter.  It was director Will Ryder who said, “ You might not want to eat that “ as he pointed me in the right direction to the catering table. Will informed me, “You don’t want to eat that. It had just been in the trash.” We all started laughing.  It was at this very table that I met a new starlet Dakota Tyler. She was young, vibrant, and a bit nervous like I was. This was also her first time on a Will Ryder set. We were all in this massive mansion in Woodland Hills. The kind of place that parked every car that approached the turn-in driveway. It was so big it made me step out and say, “Holy fuck” as I hiked up a massive, winding driveway made of cement and brick. It was better than I had imagined.  Nathan Bronson, who played the role of my son, started the day off with hilarious dirty mommy/son talk. Of course, I played right along. Nate is as wonderful and talented as you would think he is. The premise of this film,...Well, let’s have Don Juan tell you about that. Because that is what he does best. - Lily Craven

If I were to review Love, Sex, & Throuple Trouble, I would begin by stating that In the uproarious world of "Throuple Trouble," chaos reigns supreme. All as a dysfunctional family takes center stage, navigating through stories of laughter, love, and beer-drinking porn stars bound in a wheelchair. This masterpiece was written, directed, and produced by a master of comedic storytelling. Will Ryder’s script was brought to life by an ensemble cast that included Vanna Bardot, Athena Anderson, Nate Bronson, Anna Claire Clouds, Lucy Doll, Cassie Del Isla, Charles Dera, Brad Newman, and like Lily stated, the fabulous Dakota Tyler.

My cast led by the gorgeous Vana Bardot and Charles Dera was spectacular. We’ve cast Vana multiple times and she is dead-serious in her work. I’m not even sure she said hello to me. - Will Ryder

This movie is a rollercoaster ride of hot sex and hilarity. That is what Will Ryder’s gift has always been. To make you laugh till you soil yourself. You know that when you watch a Will Ryder movie, something will come out of your genitals plain and simple. Now, I am going to use some of Don Juan’s charm to speak to Will Ryder himself. I got lucky during my first year as a producer and caught Will in a gloomy Las Vegas airport as we both headed home from AVN. Naturally, I had to pick my idol's brain about how he made his films. This led to me getting into his Rolodex and I have made that connection mighty useful in terms of understanding how real films are made ever since.

Adam & Eve told me they wanted a feature movie with intimate, serious subject matter such as polyamorous marriages. After I wiped the dumbfounded look off my face, I turned the script into somewhat of a slapstick comedy although a lot of what we shot ended up on the cutting room floor. - Will Ryder

The story revolves around Jennifer McNeil (Vanna Bardot), a dedicated police detective whose chaotic home life threatens to unravel her career. Married to Dale, the quirky  Nathan Bronson, and sharing her home with her uninhibited sister Dakota (Dakota Tyler) and the eccentric, always smoking-and-drinking mother-in-law, Lily (Lily Craven). Jennifer's life is already a recipe for disaster. With Lily's close-minded beliefs and Dakota's unfiltered escapades. There is never a dull moment in this film. Nor is there ever a sex scene that does not have the gusto of a few dozen orgasms. The collection of talent is second to none, even in terms of acting and story. I thought it was amazing to learn that Frank Bukkwyd is not just another actor in the film. He is also the man who taught the new starlets how to make their characters come to life.

Jennifer's career seems to always be hanging in the balance throughout this film. Her kinky quest to keep her job leads the family down a side-splitting path of therapy sessions with mandated psychiatrist Frank Bukkwyd. As secrets spill and the family dynamics unfold, Jennifer and Dale decide to try something daring to introduce a sister's wife, the free-loving Athena (Athena Anderson), into their lives. But as Athena’s unconventional behavior raises eyebrows, Jennifer is torn between the throuple relationship and her duty as a cop.

Mother-in-law, Lily Craven, brings humor to the film as the wheelchair-bound matriarch who lights up her days with cigarettes and witty outbursts. Her classic beliefs about family and life add an extra layer of hilarity to the already wild scenario. I do believe that this woman is going to take home a trophy in January for Best Non-Sex Performance. Dakota Tyler is a revelation as the promiscuous sister who doesn't filter words about her exploits. Her blatant openness is both shocking and side-splittingly funny. Her sex scene is something that shows why she is now getting big bookings everywhere she goes. I had to go to the director about these unbelievable performances. I can feel the vibes of a best new starlet with Dakota’s well-executed performance.  I also had to know how he found this big-titted MILF, and what made him see this character in her. For, if you know Lily Craven, you will know she is nothing like the character she plays in Love, Sex & Throuple Trouble.

I took a chance on a relatively new actress I didn’t know at all from a thespian point of view and cast Lily Craven in a fucked up MILF role. We cast her as the mother-in-law character. This off-the-wall loudmouth in a wheelchair. Wound up tight with an oxygen mask in one hand, while the other had her chain-smoking cigarettes, and drinking beer out of a can at 10 AM. Guys would love to have sex with Lily Craven the porn star, but I don’t think anybody would want to have sex with her character Lily in Love, Sex, & Throuple Trouble. The real cool part is that she trusted what I wrote and brought home a wonderful performance.  - Will Ryder

I believe the true comedic genius of "Throuple Trouble" lies in its ability to tackle chaotic family dynamics with a lighthearted touch. The cast's chemistry is infectious, and their performances keep the audience entertained from start to finish. Will Ryder's direction masterfully weaves together madness and mayhem. Delivering a memorable comedy that's pure entertainment. I think that this film is massively under the radar. It is a comedy classic that takes on so many new sexual dynamics.

I think these tidbits of information might give a hint as to what kind of a movie this turned out to be and I love the finished edit.  Everybody in the movie has some sort of insane problem that needs to be solved. Which makes it an even more entertaining movie in my eyes. Cassie Del Isla and Anna Claire Clouds are sexually exquisite. Young Dakota Tyler is a natural actress and Athena Anderson as a loving bank robber is funny as hell. Lucy Doll has that amazing little voice. Nathan Bronson is hilarious as always. My go-to guy, well, that is Charles Dera. He always delivers an intense performance. Great cast. I love them all.  - Will Ryder 

As the movie ends, one can't help but echo Lily Craven's thoughts on being part of an Adam & Eve film: "I feel so privileged being part of an Adam & Eve film with Will Ryder. It was an honor to participate in true film-making by directors and film crew that appreciate and cherish what true film-making is." 

"Love, Sex & Throuple Trouble" is a sex-filled comedy that celebrates the absurdity of family life, embracing chaos and all. A must-watch for anyone looking for a hearty laugh and a glimpse into the whirlwind of love and lunacy.

When I walked into the mansion in Woodland Hills, I felt like I was stepping into a living piece of adult film history. It is a rare privilege to be invited to a Will Ryder set, and I was sure to savor every moment. I was particularly struck by the dedicated crew tirelessly adjusting equipment from sunrise to the next sunrise. During a break, I took the opportunity to chat with Craven Moorehead and express my appreciation for his hard work, which genuinely surprised him, as few took notice. Will Ryder, the director, maintained a surprisingly calm demeanor, with the exception of a couple of disputes with his longtime filmmaking partner, Scott, which always ended in crew applause and laughter. After a day of rehearsing lines, it was time for the sex scenes I wasn't part of. I felt a mix of relief and guilt as I left first, knowing the real heroes were the ones who soldiered on through the night. As I lay in my Calabasas hotel room, I couldn't help but marvel at the crew's unwavering dedication. It is my hope that sets like Will Ryder's do not become a thing of the past and that future directors will continue to uphold the true art of filmmaking. - Lily Craven
