Songs In The Key of Smut: Slutty Slow Jams

POP CULTURE

Light the candles, put on the satin sheets, and warm the oil!

Hey Fleshbot fans! I’m back on my music columns, and this time we’re talking about R&B slow jams which some people refer to as “baby-making music”, but if you’re not about that life, it’s just fun and sensual music to set the mood. Most of these songs have great music videos as well!

“Freak Me” by Silk -- There’s no accident that three of the songs on this list contain the word “freak” which is a euphemism for “fuck” mostly, and “freak dancing” was the stuff of school administrator nightmares back in the day when this and other songs with a suitable grinding rhythm to them came out. Good on them to have included the lyrics “till you say stop..”-- consent is sexy!

“Freek’n You” by Jodeci -- This song has the most flagrant euphemistic use of “freak”. Jodeci enjoyed a relative degree of fame in the 1990s and has played in various combinations since this sexytime classic was released.

“I Wanna Sex You Up” by Color Me Badd -- These dudes. Goodness. They look like the fuckboi and definitely-adults-only versions of New Kids On The Block. They’re a bunch of white dudes from Oklahoma who decided to sing R&B and this song is by far their most popular.

“Freak Like Me” by Adina Howard -- Adina Howard’s biggest hit by far was this song, an open declaration of female sexuality and desire. Adina, who hails from Michigan, says that Madonna was among her biggest influences.

“Rocket” by Beyoncé -- Queen Bey has some pretty spicy stuff in her repertoire and even though “Texas Hold ‘Em” might be overplayed AF currently, grab your music app and check out some of her back catalog. I recently saw a burlesque act to this song and…. Uhm, more please?

“Red Light Special” by TLC -- These three ladies have had quite a lot of hits and a very long career that was sadly cut short by the untimely passing of one of their members. Again, something this overtly sexual from a woman’s perspective was kind of subversive back then before we had stuff like WAP and Rihanna’s “S&M”

What songs have I missed? Is there a sex-related playlist you’d like to see? Tweet me at @fleshbot and I’ll see what I can come up with!
