Chanel Preston Weighs In On “Fifty Shades Of Grey” Trailer

The trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey is lighting up the internet, and everyone's weighing in on it from The Roots to Nutty Madam. No honest to goodness porn stars had spoken about it, though, until finally Chanel Preston decided to enlighten us all with her opinion.

In an interview with Film School Rejects (link below), Chanel had some choice words about the trailer and the project in general.

Is the fetish aspect of the film accurately portrayed in the trailer?

I think many BDSM/fetish lifestylers (those who participate in these acts in their personal life) will say no. I think this is because it doesn’t accurately portray their own relationship with BDSM, and they are very protective over their community or lifestyle. However, people participate in this lifestyle for MANY reasons, and to varying degrees. Therefore, it’s not far from the truth for many people’s situations when you see Ana’s curiosity piqued because someone she is in a relationship with is interested in it.

I know that we live in a society concerned with instant gratification, but how on earth is she supposed to have an informed opinion on what the film's content is based on one shitty trailer? 

Is there anything you would’ve done differently when creating the trailer and depicting the world of fetish and bondage?

I feel they are trying to be tasteful, but I wish they would have thrown in one “shocker” moment, whether through a strange implement used, or a quick, extremely sexual moment where the audience may have gone, “What the hell was that?”. Most of the audience watching has read the book, so they already know the story line. The trailer should have given them a quick something to pique their interest a little beyond what the book had.

It is ironic that Film School Rejects is pressing her so hard to make an informed decision about the film based solely on the trailer. This is the same site that urged us to reserve judgment on Ben Affleck's casting as Batman until we saw the film. Maybe cut Chanel some slack fellas, and get her opinion on the whole movie.
