1)    What kind of girl were you back in high school?  Who did you hang out with/date?  

I was a serious student and also part of a modern dance company. I went to a performing arts high school, took honors classes and hung out with people from my company and also theater kids. I never dated boys from my school, and liked college boys. I wore a lot of black and listened to Depeche Mode, The Cure, Neil Diamond and disco.

2)   Were you a porn fan before you got into the industry?  Who were your favorite porn stars/favorite porn movies?

I was a porn fan from a very early age. I loved the old Caballero movies with Ron Jeremy, Sharon Mitchell, and John Leslie. I loved “Hot Dreams,” “Touch of Heaven,” “The Opening of Misty Beethoven,” and “Let Me Count The Ways.” Later on I became a huge fan of TT Boy, Christy Canyon and of course Stagliano, Joey Silvera and John Leslie. Once I discovered gonzo it was all over for me. It became my sole jerk off material.

3)   What do you think shaped you into the performer that we see in your porno?

I don’t know. I just really love sex. I try to stay present. I let myself go, and try to connect with my partner. As a performer I’m primarily known for my anal scenes. I had always enjoyed anal sex, but didn’t realize how much I truly loved it until porn. I didn’t have really aggressive sex until porn, and also the industry provided me with big penises. I discovered I am a size queen, especially when it comes to anal sex.

4)  What/who do you want to do on-camera that you haven’t done yet?

I’d like to do a scene with James Deen, Ramon [Nomar], Mick Blue and me. I’ve worked with all of them, but would love them all on me and in me like fucking pistons. As for a performer I haven’t worked with yet, I really want to work with Stoya.

5)   Who is your favorite male performer/female performer to work with and why?

I can’t name just one. I need to name like five each. My favorite male performers are James Deen, Steve Holmes, Rocco Siffredi, Michael Vegas, and Shane Diesel. When I got to Evil Angel I decided to do an anal POV series where I really examine and explore assholes. 8)   How is it being an Evil Angel director?  What is John Stagliano like as a person?

I’d always wanted to be an Evil director. I came into the business hoping that one day it would happen. Stagliano is brilliant, with a very dry sense of humor, volatile, and enormously helpful. He’s always quick to respond to any and all of my possibly annoying questions about what I can get away with shooting, and he’s never judgmental. He’s my hero.

9)   What is one thing you would teach a woman who wanted to use a strap-on with her female or male partner?

Be mindful of the person you’re fucking. The dildo is not part of your body, so you can’t always know how far you’re going with it. Also, establish a comfortable rhythm for you and your partner and use it as a default zone when you’re experimenting with going faster, slower, harder, etc. 

10) What are the best things about being a porn star?

All the DPs. I never get to do them in my personal life. It’s also easier for me to bang chicks. I’m so awkward, it’s amazing I ever got as much play as I did before porn.

11)   What do you think is your hottest scene from one of your self-directed Evil Angel titles?

The scene with Ramon, Valentina Nappi and me from Girl/Boy.

12)   What do you think is your best scene from one of your other titles and what made it so exquisite for you?

As a performer, I’d have to say it’s a tie between my scene with Riley Reid from Sweetheart’s Mother Lover Society 10, and my scene with Karlie Montana for Lesbian Hitchhiker 5.  As a director for Sweetheart I am most proud of the Lesbian Babysitter titles I’ve done. 

13)   Who are your role models in porn and how/why do they inspire you?

Obviously John Stagliano. He has been a huge inspiration, and has given me invaluable advice. He has encouraged me to be bold, break rules with regard to technical aspects of shooting, and he believes in this industry. It’s not just about money for him. Nica Noelle is brilliant and a pioneer in this business. I learned all about seduction from her. Mason was the first woman I really looked up to as a director when I came into the business. She was such a badass, and I loved how fearless she was. I admire Jules Jordan, too. He’s just a motherfucking baller. I remember being at AVN in 2004 and seeing this kid walking around in a baseball hat and starter jacket. I was like, “Who’s that guy” and someone said “Oh, that’s Jules Jordan. He’s the top selling director at Evil Angel.”

14)   What can we look for in your upcoming Evil Angel releases?

Fluid Vol. 2, which has been amazing to shoot. I have a new volume of Femdom Ass Massacre Extreme Humiliation as well.

15)   What is the best mainstream movie you have seen recently? 

I can never just give one. I really loved Gravity, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Blue Jasmine blew me away. I’m a huge Woody Allen fan. Regardless of all the controversy, the fact remains that his work has made an enormous, positive impact on me.

16)   How about the best porno movie? Is there someone whose movies you like to watch who is working now?

I love what Manuel Ferrara does. We don’t have the same aesthetic, but his camera work is some of the best, and you can see how much he loves the female form. I love how he shoots asses. I love [Mike] Adriano’s stuff, because it’s beautifully shot and so filthy. Joey Silvera. Nica’s gay stuff blows me away. Nobody is doing what she is doing in gay porn—it’s powerful and stunning.

17)   Are you into toys to get yourself off alone or are you a low-tech woman?

Low tech. It’s gotta be easy for me. Although I’ve enjoyed getting DPed by my lover and a cucumber recently.

19)   What is coming up for you?

Finishing Fluid Vol. 2, shooting a new lesbian series, and shooting a lesbian prison movie for Sweetheart. 

20)   Is there anything you want to say to your fans here at Fleshbot?

Until male performers and directors over the age of 25 are referred to as DILFs, I’d like to simply be referred to as a woman. I understand the fetish for older women, and often appear in MILF titles. I’ve even shot a MILF edition for my Lesbian Anal POV series, because I saw the earning potential in the word MILF, but I struggle with it, and ultimately despise it. I dislike being referred to as MILF director, as though being a MILF somehow qualifies the work that I shoot. I’d rather just be a director, and Dana Vespoli instead of “MILF Dana Vespoli.” I have no illusions about my age, or the fact that I am, indeed, a mom. I’ll go even further and say that I am, indeed, a mom that many people would like to fuck, so in that very limited way, that stupid word does work in describing me, and it also serves to diminish everything else. I’m also Asian and from Oregon. Why stop at MILF? Why not describe me as “Asian MILF Oregonian director/performer Dana Vespoli”?  Ultimately, I have no control over whether or not people call me MILF. Or anything else, for that matter, but Goddamn it felt good to get that off my chest.
