The ivory tower just got a little harder now that its newest academic journal is back from the printers. Porn Studies is a magazine that is meant to have sticky pages, and is likely to get students hot and bothered about their curriculum again.

Think we're joking? Please. As porography continues its long march to respectability, which is obviously the death knell for all that's good and raunchy about it, you will know it by it's coverage in mainstream newspapers such as the Washington Post (link below).

The paper that broke the Watergate scandal wrote, "The debut issue of Porn Studies, published by Routledge and co-edited by a professor of cultural studies at London's Middlesex University, was released on Friday. It hails itself as the 'first dedicated, international, peer reviewed journal to critically explore those cultural products and services designated as pornographic.'"

Hip-the-fucking-hooray.

Still, let's be honest here, there are elements of this news we can support. For one thing, we like to read, and the journal promises in-depth and meaty articles on such topics as "Revisiting dirty looks," "Hard to swallow: Hard-core pornography on screen," "Pornography, porno, porn: Thoughts on a weedy field," "Deep tags: Toward a quantitative analysis of online pornography,""Internationalizing porn studies" and "Porn and sex education, porn as sex education."

Okay, we take that back. This is a lose-lose.
