“Hairy In America”: The Forest For The Pubes

Usually it's a bad thing when we don't get what we expected from a porn movie, but in the case of "Hairy in America" we are bearded with riches.

It has been said before—but not nearly as well as we're about to say it now—that the retrofetishization of pubic hair can only be compared to porn in which women let their toenails grow.

That we today celebrate or fetishize something that was simply the norm back in '70s porn (and who knows? It might be the norm now—we understand that the people we hang around with are not a cross-section of America) is pretty neat. Maybe there'll be a resurgence of women dressing like Annie Hall?

Anyway, "Hairy in America" presents itself—correctly—as a movie in which the women are hairier than your average pornstress. But it's also a travelogue (The ever-grateful Seth Dickens hits a snowy Big Bear Lake with Tegan), an Abby Winters-style friendly lesbian romp (with Alicia Silver and Bianca Stone, the hairiest of the group), and a great showcase for plus-(for porn)-sized women in the beautiful Nora Skyy and the aforementioned Tegan.

Nora Skyy's is my favorite scene because she reminds me of a war-time bride. The combination of her sensible hair and curve-hugging dress is not what you'd have seen painted on the nose of a plane but would have been exactly the type of girl next door the soldiers were dreaming about.

Not that the extra pelting is a distraction or unattractive, but there is great fun to be found if you can see the forest for the pubes.
