“Eloquent Nude”: Edward Weston and Charis Wilson

Edward Weston was a pioneer in the field of photography, starting as a young boy after the turn of the 20th century and eventually growing to work alongside such luminaries as Ansel Adams and Dorothea Lange. But since this is Fleshbot, you know we're more interested in his considerable body of stunning art nudes than his landscapes and still lifes. One nude in particular was his assistant, model and eventually third wife Charis Wilson, who he met when he was 48 and she was 19; they lived and worked together for over a decade while creating hundreds of classic portraits and cementing his legacy as one the greats in his field. Now 91, Charis shared her story with documentary filmmakers who have chronicled this partnership in a loving tribute to the man and his work. Their website tells their story through the making of the film, with behind the scenes and preview clips—and starting tomorrow, you can even catch the whole thing limited release (if you live in Portland, Oregon, that is.) Anyone interested in classic photography and the nude as an art form should check out this fascinating look at a master at work—and give thanks to the woman who made so much of it possible.
