Book Review: Two New Pocket-Sized Sexy Books

POP CULTURE

Fun little books, lots of sexy inspiration!

Hey Fleshbot fans! I’ve got two really cool books to tell you about today, both by Sadie Cayman, thanks to the awesome folks at Cleis Press.

1. The Little Book of Sex Facts

The first is The Little Book of Sex Facts. As a young person, I was really into the World Almanac, The Book of Lists, and similar volumes. They always included a spicy chapter and I was deeply fascinated with things like the world’s largest penis. Gee, who would think I’d end up writing about sex for a living?

This book is a microcosm of those sorts of books, focusing on sex matters, as the neon eggplant emoji graphic on the cover would suggest. Some of these facts are just mind-boggling and sort of tickle at your kinks. For example, because I’ve watched too much hentai and now read this book, body inflation is even fun for me to think about because it has an actual basis in reality. Who knew that breasts actually can swell up to 25 percent bigger when the person is aroused and that yes, we know that penises grow, but testicles can also grow by up to 50 percent when aroused. Who’s got the biggest balls of them all? That’s likely in here too. There are odd sex laws, history factoids, celebrity sex facts, and lots more. It’s not really organized, it’s just sort of presented randomly, which makes my librarian brain hurt just a little -- I mean, what if you just need penis facts, and nothing else, for instance? I don’t know when you’d have occasion for that, but I personally prefer my factoids a bit better organized. Overall, though, this is a breezy conversation starter of a book and a great addition to your sex library.

2. Live Love Lust

Live Love Lust is the second of these books. The title is a play on the “Live Laugh Love” lifestyle and all it entails, which is amusing. The book itself puts me in mind of those giant “Fun Pad” books, or whatever they were called that I had when I was younger. They had a little bit of coloring, a little bit of word find, mazes, crosswords, connect-the-dots-- anything to keep the user quiet and busy in whatever situation.

Now we just have phones and tablets for that purpose, which, granted, have apps that replicate a lot of that, but this little volume is a very adult fun pad for lovers to take into the bedroom together, which is a lot more fun than, say, waiting in a doctor’s office. It also includes aphrodisiac-forward and sex-themed recipes, so I guess one would need to take it into the kitchen as well, which is a fine place to fuck, just be careful of the knives and fire. There are the ever-popular lovers’ coupons that can be exchanged for favors and romantic gestures. There are some actual puzzles to do, position suggestions, and sex games (like “Spin the Dildo”!) you can play, using materials you probably have around the house, outlined here. Evaluating a book like this, I often see if it’s something that could be enjoyed by all types of lovers and uses inclusive language and this title definitely passed that test. This is a really cute volume to include in a Valentine’s, shower, wedding, or anniversary gift as well as a “just because” thing.

Check them out.
