Mercedes Carrera Trial Delayed Again, New Date Set for December

LEGAL NEWS STRAIGHT

The trial of Mercedes Carrera and her husband, Daemon Cris, has once again been delayed, pushing the start date to December 6th, 2024. The couple, arrested in 2019 on charges of sexual assault involving a child, have faced a protracted legal battle marked by numerous postponements and a complex web of accusations.

Trial Date Set for Mercedes Carrera #NewCharges

Carrera and Cris were initially arrested on charges of possessing methamphetamine while armed with a handgun, but those charges were later dropped. The current charges stem from allegations made by Carrera’s nine-year-old daughter from a previous marriage, who described a harrowing four-month period of repeated sexual assaults during a preliminary hearing.

The couple’s apartment, which doubled as a production site for adult content, became a focal point of the investigation. The discovery of drugs and firearms during a police raid added to the disturbing nature of the allegations.

Throughout the legal proceedings, Carrera has vehemently denied the charges, claiming they were fabricated by her ex-husband as a means of revenge and character assassination. She maintains that the accusations are part of a vindictive campaign against her.

The repeated delays in the trial have fueled anticipation and frustration among those following the case. Legal experts anticipate a deep dive into the evidence presented during preliminary hearings and a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the couple’s arrest.

The case has drawn significant attention, not only within the adult industry but also in the broader public sphere. It has sparked conversations about child protection, substance abuse, and the challenges of navigating legal systems when personal and professional lives intersect in controversial ways.

The specific charges against Carrera and Cris have been modified since their initial arrest. There are a total of 11 charges pending. They are as follows:

PC288.7(A)-F (1 count) – SDMY: VICTIM UNDER 10YRS

(a) Any person 18 years of age or older who engages in sexual intercourse or sodomy with a child who is 10 years of age or younger.

PC288.7(B)-F (10 counts) – ORAL COP: VICT UNDER 10YRS

(b) Any person 18 years of age or older who engages in oral copulation or sexual penetration, as defined in Section 289, with a child who is 10 years of age or younger.

Cris also faces an additional felony charge for possessing a weapon while in prison, adding another layer of complexity to the case.

The upcoming trial, if it proceeds as scheduled in December, is expected to shed light on the intricate details of the allegations and the evidence against the couple. It will also provide an opportunity for both Carrera and Cris to present their defense and challenge the accusations that have plagued them for over five years.

If convicted, they face multiple life sentences, so despite having already served 5 years, they could potential face a lifetime behind bars.

PC 288.7 crimes are considered “super strike” offenses, which means that the defendant will receive a life sentence regardless of any prior “strike” convictions. They are also considered serious and violent offenses, so the benefits of Proposition 57 do not apply.
