The Rainbow Bar & Grill, a storied Sunset Strip venue long frequented by celebrities, has reached confidential settlements with a group of women who accused the establishment of enabling adult film actor Ron Jeremy’s alleged sexual assaults on its premises.
The global resolution, revealed during a court hearing Tuesday in Santa Monica, ends multiple civil lawsuits filed by at least nine women against the bar’s ownership company, Rockin’ Horse, over claims of negligence. The settlement follows the collapse of Jeremy’s criminal prosecution due to his mental incompetency, leaving civil litigation as the primary path to recourse for his accusers.
“This has been a really long road for my clients,” said Aaron Osten, an attorney representing two Jane Does who testified before a grand jury and accused Jeremy of assaulting them at the bar in 2016 and 2019. “They went through a lot… This is pretty much as close to closure as we can get.”
Ron Jeremy, born Ronald Jeremy Hyatt, was indicted in August 2021 on 34 felony counts of sexual assault involving 21 women and girls, with some victims as young as 15. Eight of those alleged incidents reportedly occurred at the Rainbow Bar & Grill. In January 2023, a judge ruled Jeremy not competent to stand trial, citing a severe neurocognitive disorder. He was committed to a state-run mental health facility.
Despite the collapse of the criminal case, lawsuits against Rockin’ Horse proceeded, alleging that the bar’s staff either knew of or deliberately ignored Ron Jeremy’s behavior, allowing him continued access to vulnerable patrons. Plaintiffs described incidents in which Jeremy groped, assaulted, or cornered them, often in restricted areas like the employee restroom, which staff allegedly permitted him to use.
Attorney Michael Moss, representing Rockin’ Horse, confirmed to Los Angeles County Judge Mark Epstein that all cases had been settled in mediation, stating: “Settlement agreements in all these cases have already been prepared to send to the plaintiffs’ attorneys. But it will take a little time for everybody to finalize the paperwork and send the settlement checks.”
While Moss emphasized that the Rainbow Bar & Grill “strongly denied any wrongdoing”, he acknowledged that the settlements were a business decision, made “taking into consideration the cost involved in connection with litigation.” Moss also pointed out that there has never been a civil or criminal finding of liability against the bar.
A source told Rolling Stone that Rockin’ Horse was covered by insurance in the matter, allowing the company to settle without admitting fault.
Osten, however, sees the resolution as a sign of accountability. “They were committed to making sure someone was held responsible,” he said of his clients. “Hopefully Rainbow learned their lesson and won’t allow this to happen ever again.”
He added that the volume and consistency of the allegations made it difficult for the bar to deny knowledge of Jeremy’s actions. “When there are dozens of victims with the same perpetrator under the same circumstances, it’s pretty clear what was happening.”
A separate civil lawsuit against Jeremy’s estate remains active, with trial scheduled for December 2026. That case involves a woman who alleges Jeremy drugged and sexually assaulted her after removing her from the Rainbow Bar while she was visibly intoxicated.
Ron Jeremy will forever go down in history as the porn star who taught the world that coercion is not consent.
