Jana Cova's Juice will appease the former Digital Playground contract star by making its high definition debut thanks to the wonders of Blu-ray technology. Those who miss Jana's output for Digital Playground may find that they're tempted to double dip on this one for the improved picture quality, but aside from that, this is basically a reissue. So yeah, no plot, no storyline, just a collection of eight scenes featuring some very sexy girls doing what you want them to do.

Scene 1 - Jana Cova And Carli Banks: The scene starts off with some nice tease footage that sets the mood properly and then takes a strange turn when it looks like Carli's got a boner! IF Jana Cova's Juice had featured a real audio track and IF Jana Cova's Juice hadn't bombarded us with annoying slow motion footage and irritating and completely inappropriate scene transitions, it would have been hot stuff. This goes to show how much Celeste's directorial style has changed in the last few years because more recent efforts for Digital Playground tend to actually feature the voices of the actual performers, something almost always makes a porno movie hotter. Unfortunately, as nice looking as this picture is and as well shot as it is, the movie is riddled with those grating post production effects and it gets very old, very quickly. There's no doubt that director Celeste and director of photography Robby Dallas have captured some fantastic footage here but it's all been rendered limp by the incessant tinkering, and that's a damn shame. Jana's fans will enjoy this as she's in the bulk of the scenes but unless you're one of the dedicated, you're not missing much here. The whole feature seems fake, phony and tame and Jana Cova's Juice, despite the quality and the quantity of lovely ladies contained therein, comes off as a bad music video. With that out of the way, I can see how this would appeal to those who like their hardcore softened up. This could go over well as a couples video if you're looking for something inoffensive and pretty to spice things up between your own sheets, so as grating as the audio is, the feature is definitely not without merit. It's just that it could and should have been so much better...

The DVD

Getting off my soap box and moving on to the transfer, Jana Cova's Juice looks excellent in this 1080p AVC 1.85.1 anamorphic widescreen transfer but keep in mind that the picture has an intentional softness and haze to it, presumably to give it some sort of dream like fantasy effect.. There's an insane amount of detail present not only on the performers but also in the sets and backgrounds/sets used in the production. There aren't any issues at all with compression artifacts or edge enhancement while color reproduction and skin tones look excellent throughout. Eagle-eyed viewers may spot just a hint of shimmer here and there but you do have to be looking for it to notice it. There are a few scenes that have been digitally altered in post production to look like beaten up film, so don't expect these scenes to look perfect because they're not supposed to. That said, the rest of this production looks quite impressive indeed.

Sound:

The sole audio track on this Blu-ray release is a 48 kHz 448 kbps Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound mix in English. The audio on this release is fine but it isn't as impressive as the transfer is. Dialogue stays clean and clear throughout and the levels are all properly balanced. The score sounds good and there aren't any problems with background hiss or distortion at all. The audio here won't blow you away but it certainly won't disappoint you either.

Extras:

The only extra of any substance is a brief Behind The Scenes featurette that is at least presented in high definition. We get a look at some of the performers in action on the set of the production as well as some clips of the crew doing their thing. There's also some more candid material in here such as footage of the cast members relaxing between scenes and sitting around looking bored. Nothing particularly earth shattering, really, and the tendency to put 'cartoon balloons' over some of the performers is a pretty lame attempt at humor. Jana gets a bit more attention than some of the other girls here but they all get their due and a couple of interesting shots that show just how close the camera sometimes has to get to capture the action make it worth a look for those with an interest in these things.

Digital Playground has also included a trailer gallery featuring promo spots for a batch of other catalogue titles, all of which presented in HD and in 5.1 or 5.0 Surround Sound, which is a nice touch. A still gallery, motion menus, Digital Playground contact info, and scene selection round out the supplements on this release.

Final Thoughts:

Jana Cova's Juice was obviously shot with quite a bit of care and attention and it features a pretty remarkable cast of gorgeous girls in all manner of deliciously precocious situations. The lack of real audio hurts things though and the over processed post production tinkering can definitely get tiresome as well. Does the good outweigh the bad? It comes close and it's really going to boil down to how much of a stickler you are for live audio. Consider this a good gateway drug, a decent and inoffensive smut film to enjoy with your partner and it's worth a rental.
