Extras: The extras were kind of light this time, a 4.39 minute long Behind the Scenes feature the best of the admittedly limited batch. Most of it was devoted to the taking of still photographs but there were some amusing comments made for those that care to hear them. There were also trailers for Hustler titles, a slide show, and some spam with the cover sporting a second side that displayed related titles in the series.

Audio/Video Quality: Hustler XXX 30 (Blu-ray) was presented in a fetching 1.78:1 widescreen color by director Otto Bauer for Hustler Video using the AVC codec; a standard on Blu-Ray discs. My knowledge of the SD version of the movie is limited for comparison purposes but this one showed the bitrate often hovering in the mid 26.6 Mbps area compared to less than a third that in the SD version. The use of video bothers some folks but it suited the nature of the show far more than film would have and the contrasts were all enhanced by the high definition approach. There were no obvious compression artifacts, no grain to speak of, and I saw no macro-blocking or other issues that pop up; thanks in no small part to the proper lighting applied here (the final scene a bit off due to the overwhelming light of the sun though). The show looked very decent for having a 1080i resolution and the composition of the camera work in conjunction with adequate editing helped elevate this one up a notch on the technical matters for those such as me that care about them. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo English using a 224 Kbps bitrate at 48 kHz. The vocals on the scenes were flat and even in most cases and the minimal music seemed to come from the stock library used for years by the series. In terms of upgrades then, the visuals got the largest boost by a wide margin with the aural capabilities once again cleaned up but only slightly.

Body of Review: Otto Bauer is a director that I have not seen working too often since his departure from Mach 2, his limited stint at Ninn Worx producing only a few titles and now the man trying his hand at Hustler Video. For those who don't know, Otto caters to a select group of hardcore followers known as "raincoaters", the small but dedicated group always on the lookout for the rough stuff to fulfill their stroking needs. The first such title by Otto is Hustler XXX 30 (Blu-ray), a high definition outings where the gals all showed how much cock they could take inside their precious puckers, the cast hand selected for their devotion to hardcore smut. For the most part, Otto kept quiet in the scenes, the minimal set ups providing the structure for the performers to get nasty in a way that few other directors at Hustler manage to do these days. The high definition version of the movie looked much better and the visual upgrade made it all look more realistic than any of Otto's past works in SD, meriting a rating of Recommended or better depending on how much of a fan you are for this set of ladies. In short, Hustler XXX 30 (Blu-ray) might not have had an extensive set of bonus materials and the rough stuff was not as edgy as I've seen in one of Otto's movies, but it showed him evolving with time, evolving in a manner that should please many who want something just a touch less nasty than his most decadent work but still maintaining his core vision.
