James Deen’s 7 Sins: Gluttony

Evil Angel/James Deen Productions

Genre: Feature

Director/Writer/Producer: James Deen

Cast: Harper Hughes, Sara Luvv, Jessie Parker, Lyla Storm, Karmen Karma, Seth Gamble, Christian XXX, Tommy Pistol, Toni Ribas

Length: 111:58 minutes

Extras: There was a 3:59 minute long Behind the Scenes feature but it seemed tacked on and almost like an afterthought given the jumbled footage included. There was also a company trailer, filmographies, a cast list, website links, photogalleries for the pairings in the main scene (a group set, one with Karmen & Christian, one with Jessie & Tommy, Lyla & Toni, Sara & Seth, and Harper with the group), movie trailers, and a pop shot recap from the scenes.

Condoms: None

Audio/Video Quality: James Deen’s 7 Sins: Gluttony was presented in anamorphic widescreen as directed by James Deen for Evil Angel. The Director of Photography was Johnathan Taylor Thomas, the editor listed as Danny Wylde, and the score by Chad Alva. Those who like a lot of lighting and clearly defined sexual scenes will find this movie to be cut from a different cloth, my screen captures perhaps helping you see that this isn’t the same kind of porn most of us are used to watching over the last 20+ years. The camera was mounted on a circular rail system surrounding the table and was almost constantly in clockwise motion around the table, ever so briefly slowing down or stopping at times for a particular act before an edit would revert to those wheels that kept a rolling (for all you Johnny Cash fans out there). There was a company watermark on the lower right corner of the picture but it was unobtrusive to me, the other issues bothering me much more. The aural components were on the basic side too, the vocals a bit too low in the scene because they emphasized the score by Chad, music used more often to set the mood before it was rapidly altered to suit the nature of the flick.

Body of Review: James Deen has been directing for Evil Angel for a short time now, the resulting movies showing a great deal of potential. His latest title for the company is called James Deen’s 7 Sins: Gluttony, the movie coming out next week. The theme of the movie was clear enough, James trying to bone scores of hotties without the usual repercussions, but it interested me as the beginning of a series too, “Pride” coming out at the end of next month. Costarring Harper Hughes, I went into this wondering if he would tie the sins together or if they were unrelated to a degree, no narrative offered by the company website at this writing. When initially told this was a single scene where all the sex took place concurrently, “not quite a standard orgy” was mentioned, I held my curiosity in check but figured it would have more artistic leanings to persuade the gullible how swell it was around awards time. The back cover described it like this: “Gluttony, the second installment of James Deen's 7 sins, follows the story of gluttonous sinners portrayed by Sara Luvv, Jessie Parker, Lyla Storm, Karmen Karma, Toni Ribas, Tommy Pistol, Seth Gamble and Christian. Will they succeed in seducing Harper Hughes into their world of sin?” Here’s a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: The movie started out in a darkened room with a well lit table surrounded by chairs, various dishes of food placed around centerpiece Harper Hughes; a BBW newcomer wearing black lingerie and stockings. The cast sat down and started drinking their wine with some limited eating of the food, then pairing up as follows: Karmen Karma & Christian XXX, Jessie Parker & Tommy Pistol, Lyla Storm & Toni Ribas, as well as Sara Luvv & Seth Gamble. Each couple would start getting frisky with each other, taking their time to enjoy the surrounding sexuality as they gave head to one another, either gobbling gash or slobbing knobs, remaining with their initial partner. Some began vaginal fucking much sooner than others and there was intermittent oral between positions, the constantly panning camera frustratingly refusing to remain on a single couple no matter how heated a time they may have appeared to be having. The further a couple was from the well lit table, the harder it was to see the specific sex acts too, the white table cloth contrasting so heavily against the flesh tones as to render them harder to see. At times there was a grander scale to the scene reminding me of some foreign directors like Max Candy or Gazzman’s work except that they would offer multiple such orgies in the same movie rather than just one tryst. The loads flew one at a time, from chest pops to facials, semen launching on hands and elsewhere, certainly not a major feature of the action here.

Summary: James Deen’s 7 Sins: Gluttony by director James Deen for Evil Angel was another artistic leaning fuck flick, amounting to a single scene where four couples fucked before turning their sexual attention on newcomer BBW Harper Hughes, the idea of food fetish included as a major component of the tryst. The performers did not swap partners as they tend to do in a standard porn orgy and I’d be lying if I said the entire production was the “same old same old” offered up by the industry, yet for all the artistic nods and accolades I would give to James, the lengthy single scene format really did not work well for me so I rated it as a Rent It. Having appreciated a great deal of foreign and indie films made by mainstream auteurs over the years, often those working on tight budgets with limited time, I could see all sorts of touches that some might enjoy but most of the sex was shot in close up with a constantly moving camera, the jumpy editing contributing to the haphazard manner in which the orgy was presented. Further, even BBW lovers will likely wonder why Harper was used so sparingly (a contradiction of the sin in question), the bulk of her role as table centerpiece with a modest amount of fingering and oral at the very end leaving me unsatisfied. In short, James Deen’s 7 Sins: Gluttony should appeal to the pretentious or those who hold all porn conventions in contempt, the back of my mind telling me that James will laugh all the way to the bank if anyone buys into the premises that comprise the movie. As far as food fetish orgies are concerned, it had some merit at times, but my rating was designed to get those into experimental fuck flicks to at least give it a look, porn always a majority of one in my estimation (we all have different trigger trippers).
