Audio/Video Quality: Lies: Diary of an Escort was offered up in a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen presentation as shot by director Sunny Leone for Vivid(under their distribution deal with Sunlust Pictures). The picture seemed to lack as much resolution as other features on the market right now, almost to the point where I would have asked if someone decided to emulate the look of 8mm film but on a small budget. The lighting was on the subdued side and the detail lacked in many of the shots as a result but the saturated looking colors were otherwise accurate. The editing appeared rushed in several scenes and I can’t say this was as polished an effort as I usually see coming out of the Vivid camp but if you’re a fan of the performers featured here, it will be well worth looking into. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital using a 48 kHz sampling rate and 192 Kbps bitrate (the BTS clocked in higher at 256 Kbps strangely enough), the lack of true separation or blending of vocals, ambient noises, and score such that it was much like other titles coming out of the industry.

Body of Review: Sunny Leone has long been considered one of the most physically attractive women in the entertainment industry, her featured works for Vivid helping elevate her name into a near brand name status known even outside of the usual circles. Her crossover into mainstream has yielded a few titles leading friends of mine to ask more about her and Sunny has taken up directing in addition to popularizing her website in a way that keeps fans coming back. Sunny’s latest collaboration with partner Daniel has netted one just in time for awards consideration, the title called Lies: Diary of an Escorttaking the time tested idea of looking at a woman’s rise into the dangerous world of escorting, my biggest surprise being that Sunny herself did not star in the role (unlike last year’s awesome “Gia”). The lead here was fetching Breanne Benson, the young lady seen in almost all of the seven scenes in the movie. I won’t spoil the plotted elements or otherwise ruin the flick for you outside of a general description of the sexual trysts but suffice it to say that there were a lot of unpolished edges. The back cover described the movie like this: “Lies: Diary Of An Escort is an in depth story of a independent working girl. Going from client to client, Breanne Benson lies to conform to their desires. Sunny Leone tries to protect her roommate and lover, but Breanne's selfish ways are blinded by money. What she chooses in the end will change Sunny forever….” Here’s a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that condoms were used for those still interested:

The editing looked like it was either really rushed or farmed out in sections (it wasn’t consistent), one of the biggest headaches being that a stationary shot would “bounce” since an obvious cut did not match up with the next portion of a scene (this happened more than once) and the other being the pacing having little consistency. Still, as an early feature effort it showed plenty of promise from Sunny and producer/cameraman Daniel, fans of Breanne Benson needing to make this one a true “must have” at least as much as the Sunny Leone contingent out there. In short, Lies: Diary of an Escort picked up a common porn theme (several movies have similar themes) and ran on the strength of Sunny Leone and Breanne Benson, certainly a worthy endeavor by all involved so check it out to see if it might work for you.
