Note: The following is a review for the HD DVD version of Deeper 2, a spin off series for Digital Playground that was released in standard definition DVD over a year ago to heaps of praise, garnering various award nominations and showing the world that the company listened to the consumers wanting more fleshy backsides at play. The content of the movie was the same and the extras barely modified to include HD DVD trailers that show off the higher resolution of the titles that are either out or about to come out in the popular new format. The quick version of the review is that the show looks somewhat better than the original but it always looked pretty good so it's value as a double dip will depend on how big your wallet is and how much disposable cash you have. I suggest you check out this Deeper 2 HD to get a better idea of what it looks like in this new form.  Enjoy!

Extras: The best extra was the 5.5 minute long Behind the Scenes feature shot by Scott K. for the movie. As is usually the case, it was far too short but still full of the wacky humor that the company is known for (using the edits and sound effects to goof on everyone). While there was extra sex and nudity here too, the comedy bits were great for me as always. There was a photogallery, a slide show, a biography for Teagan Presley, a cum shot recap, and trailers for movies like Pirates II, Island Fever 4 HD, Deeper 1 HD, Babysitters HD, Pirates HD, Jack's Playground 27 HD, Contract Star HD, Jesse Jane: Sexual Freak HD, Jack's Teen America 3 HD, Island Fever 3 HD, Hush HD, Jack's POV HD, and Cockasian HD.

Audio/Video Quality: Deeper 2 HD was presented in the usual 1.78:1 ratio widescreen color it was shot in by director Robby D. for Digital Playground using a full HD resolution and the AVC/MPEG-4 codec to provide a substantially improved picture from the SD version that came out long ago. Digital had the foresight to shoot using the latest technology and their back catalog is only now being released in HD-DVD so expect a lot of improvements as the company becomes more handy with the new formats. The grain of the original and compression artifacts were minimized and the resolution was great enough that what once looked like solid colored walls could now be seen to have some texture to them (and holes). The visual elements of the movie were consciously designed to look as they did with a slightly rough look yet a lot of variation in terms of lighting, special effects, and other gimmicks. I tend to frown upon this type of thing though combined with upgraded music tracks; it worked more often than not strictly on visual elements alone. If you don't like the artistic type of porn scene, you'll find this wanting but taken in small doses, I'd be misleading you if I said I didn't like it as a change of pace. The fleshtones ranged from being too harshly lit to over saturated to all kinds of "looks" but they caught the eye and held my attention each time I watched it (and I watched it several times). The editing brought on board Kurt Tortcher to assist the talented Joey Pulgadas, both deftly handling the greater demands of the stylish requirements seen here (each working on the cool music too). The DVD mastering allowed for no compression artifacts to be observed and no video noise popped up, completing a very nice visual presentation that worked all around. The audio was presented with the upgraded 5.1 Dolby Digital + and the improvements were slighter here with little separation between the speakers in most cases, but some added clarity of the vocals all the same. Absent was the fancy, and typically lame, porn music many of Robby's peers rely on to mask various audio flaws; replaced with a combination of jazz-flavored pieces that focused the attention on the cast as they did their deeds. The balance was music heavy and did little with the vocals (one of the few things I may never get used to or appreciate) though so even the superior music didn't work as well for me as the limited vocals present.

Body of Review: Robby D. is the most prolific director for the vaunted Digital Playground these days; serving in some capacity on all their shoots thanks to his keen eye, steady hand, and technical skill. I know most companies these days appear to be running through directors like newborns go through diapers but this is one company that has the right idea; treat the help like partners and allow them creative control so that they will show you loyalty in return. Robby has been experimenting a lot of late as he seeks out new ways of conveying sexual tension and heat in a very crowded market; succeeding most times in addressing a particular market niche (he does it all, does it well, and doesn't rely on the same tricks all the time to keep it interesting). Today's review is of Deeper 2 HD, the thematic sequel to Deeper 1 HD, where the cast of ladies all seem to want the men to hammer them increasingly deeper as they provide a cross between the erotic Celeste style and the more gonzo Robby style that the director shoots. Of note to some of you is the company's willingness to continue marketing HD titles even with the format now having lost the "war", such titles being released as long as they sell well enough to justify their existence per Joone and Samantha; the two bigwigs at the company. Let's face it, there are still over a million players out there and the opportunity to serve that market after others have abandoned it is a pretty big feather in their cap; though I doubt sales will be big enough to continue indefinitely. The entire female cast were "A List" talent and the primary selling point was clearly the beautiful contract star Teagan Presley; a gal on her own as of this writing, looking leaner than ever. The emphasis was on artistic sex with hot ladies, and here's a breakdown of the scenes by cast and action, noting that a couple of condoms were used in the scenes with Teagan:

Scene One: Teagan Presley, the well known Houstonian hotty featured on the front DVD cover, was up first in some fetching red lingerie as she teased the camera on a couch in slow motion to a piano-heavy score that invoked a minimalist jazz feel. As soon as the credits finished up, the music went to a faster tempo and she was playfully working with pretty boy Jean Val Jean as she answered the phone. The vocals were not present (though a vocal loop of sorts was incorporated into the music) and he started working her over with fingers and tongue. She blew him for a very short time before he started nailing her pussy with a condom-clad cock in doggy style. I have no idea what the fancy and artistic effects were trying to achieve as they showed her a series of polaroids; to be up front, I looked past the effects pretty quickly into the scene as they teased and played with her, though I'd rather the effects be left in the mind of Robby this time. The gal I watched this with the first time had a bunch of positive comments to make about them but I tend to go for the "meat & potatoes" look so you'll have to see it to know what I mean. In summary, Deeper 2 was as much a showcase for the creative talents of director Robby D. as it was for the flawless beauty of Teagan Presley; transcending the throwaway porn all too common these days. It won't be for everyone but it will certainly serve its intended audience for a long, hard time to come.
