Audio/Video Quality: Jack's Playground 38 Blu-Ray was presented in 1.78:1 widescreen color as shot by director Robby D. for release by Digital Playground using the AVC codec for the upgraded high definition version (the video bitrate hovering in the upper 26.7 Mbps range most of the time, going even higher on occasion). The lighting was reasonably solid here, as expected given this was Robby's standard type of gonzo, and that meant that the limited amounts of grain and other visual elements used to lend a sense of texture were minimal. The way the scenes were shot and edited was markedly similar in the scenes, though the composition of the angles was changed up a bit depending on the scene in question; sometimes using a POV angle before the sex took place. The composition of the shots and the editing enhanced the look of the ladies more than a little bit too, proving what this critic has to say about the production team led by Robby and his crack crew with the DVD mastering revealing no obvious compression artifacts. Though the entire production looked more like some of their older works (the subtle differences observable to those who look closely enough) but as a straightforward gonzo comedy, it worked out nicely. The audio was presented in a 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround (using 448 Kbps) with a minimalist leaning that seemed unique in most ways to productions outside of the Jack series, with the vocals always dominating the audio track as I like it.Fans may appreciate the inclusion of the full 5.1 surround set up here, though much of it handled in post production, as it boosted the bass a bit over other recent releases.

Body of Review: Robby D. is one of the few guys in porn that is busier working than talking it seems, the wise leadership of Digital Playground probably deciding that keeping him busy benefits everyone involved. Next month, they release his latest misadventure called Jack's Playground 38 Blu-Ray (Teagan Presley) with the major selling point being how it features lovely Teagan Presley. For the uninitiated, the entire series is based on the admittedly flimsy plot device that "Jack" (Robby) scams the ladies into having sex on camera as a means of auditioning for music video work her promises them. While some find the concept wearing a bit thin (how long has it been since Robby first told me that an actual music video would be made for the series?!?), the premise is merely a generic means to an end, allowing the director to prey on young hotties with the viewer as the voyeur. Some of the skits are funnier than others but the overall appeal of the idea is a nice way of showing people of both genders "using each other" to get what they want. The comeuppance so far is that Jack never gets any trim and the ladies never get any video work; both sides essentially getting what they deserve. This time, Jack plays the scam on Teagan, Roxy DeVille, Lacie Heart, and others, showing the company archives still have plenty of material starring top notch talent. Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that some condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: Audrey Bitony, the brunette on the front cover, was up first as a gal Scott Nails wanted Jack to meet. He met them at the front door and Audrey was wearing a bikini outfit that hugged her curvy body. She claimed to be an exotic dancer and her sweet ass looked great in the outfit, only moments into the scene, the subject of her being in a music video came up; Audrey being the latest subject to try for a position in one of Jack's mythical masterpieces. The humor about Scott liking men licking his ass aside, he started going down on her, savoring her ass while she purred in delight. He ate her biscuit too, interrupted by a cell phone call, and she then claimed his cock as her own to hungrily inhale before they fucked. I know Robby loves her to death but she was a very passive lay until the very last portion of the vaginal ride (when she ground her hips onto the rod) and the scene finished up when Scott rubbed out a nut of population pudding to her face.

Scene Two: Roxy DeVille, a very outgoing brunette dressed up as a 1950's pin up gal, was up next as she teased outside on the set of an actual music video. It wasn't Jack's though and Eric Masterson had devised a plan to get another crack at her crack, the guy's in a hurry because the "real" crew was scheduled to show up in 15 minutes. Both gals were too skinny for me but they showed some chemistry together and that helped keep it watchable (at least a time or two). Scene Four: Lacie Heart, the beautiful blond in the center of the front cover, was up next as she practiced singing her favorite pop song, Oops, I Did It Again when Jack and Scott Nails snuck up on her. She was in bed and extremely shy about the guys catching her, the self conscious act working to convince me the dynamic was real. The scene initially struck me as being a big turning point for the show too, Lacie's fine body and positive attitude displaying a lot of charm too. The idea that Eric would go to such extremes to get laid by Teagan was undoubtedly amusing and played into the humor concept well enough; pantiless Teagan teasing a little before sitting on his face and blowing him. Summary: Jack's Playground 38 Blu-Ray by director Robby D. for Digital Playground was another volume in the series that focused hard on the star aspect, the single scene with substantial replay value held until the end of the day. There was some other stroke-worthy material too though so I rated it as a Rent It but I got the distinct impression that the first four scenes, older scenes by the looks of it, were thrown together as a filler volume to make Jack's Playground 38 Blu-Ray (Teagan Presley) closely aligned with equally mediocre Jack's Playground 37. Oh well, even the talented Robby can't hit a homerun every time but give it a look when it comes out next month to see for yourselves what I mean.Still, I couldn't deny that the high definition version was a major upgrade in terms of the visual elements, Roxy and Lacie benefiting the most by comparison but all the ladies looking better as a result.
