Girlcore: Season 1 and episode 1 “A Delicate Vice”

Girlcore is a name that just attracts anyone with a kindling of interest for something new in porn. A title that alternatively driven does ring the obvious bells with attaching both the words “girl” and “core” as more girl/girl stuff for the masses but I guarantee that this isn’t the case. Director Bree Mills set out to do something very different in adult entertainment yet very commonly seen these days in the mainstream world of NetFlix. A serialized style of gonzo porno is what Girlcore immediately shot at me.

I threw on the first episode of the first season and expected the slow-paced start which is welcome because I knew Bree was brewing characters that’ll draw me in or completely go over my head like a Lynch film. But what happened with Girlcore’s “A Delicate Vice” is something that doesn’t normally happen with your typical digestible adult material. No, I had to go back and re-watch certain parts of episode one in the Girlcore series. There was a complex relationship between Cherie Deville’s and Kenna James character. All the way down to the twisted finale my hand was not held by any sort of predictable plot. I had to take in what was thought to be a clearly unfolding story yet turned out to be a complex twist of events thanks to Bree Mill’s vision.

No toys were needed when Kenna James and Cherie finally got their hands on each other and it wasn’t until a few flashes of a driver’s fantasies before we see the streetwalking Cherie being ushered into Kenna’s reality. She’s more than just Cherie’s driver she’s her “everything”. Back at her little spot, you’ll see various Polaroid pictures of Cherie’s character obsessively posted Kenna James’ wall. The two characters actually meet in that very room to submit to Kenna’s fantasies.

Two characters one a driver and one a prostitute with an emotionally binding relationship in this purveyed plot.  So this episode started off cool with smooth retro wave music to now accompanying Kenna driving around in search of her lover for a reason you would of never of guessed but all comes around to a dramatic finish. It’s something you have to discover as you go with the episode like mainstream TV show meant to suck you in. You’ll get the explosive lesbian sex but not before you see a world built around it. The first episode of Girlcore was constructed with characters filmed in a professional setting with that curious “Adult Time” logo that I saw splash by. Would episode 2 be the same way? This is a very real question being there is an entire season of episodes to compare and contrast to. So I knew right away I had to watch more.
